I LOVE fruit leather, i get it from my local trader joes. they're like fruit roll ups except that they are made ONLY from real fruit, no added sugar or colour or anything. they're only 25 cents each and don't have to be refrigerated. i'm taking a ton of them with me in march!

My kids always like pudding cups, yogurt, jello cups, fruit cups, grapes, granola bars, cheese, baggies of cereal, and yes, the standard, crackers and chips. The first four can be messy for eating in the car, but are great for a rest stop treat, or in the hotel room. Just don't forget to bring a good supply of plastic spoons. We usually also pack lunch meats and bread and have stopped for picnics at rest stops for lunch since eating out can get old (and expensive). As a matter of fact, on the way back from Disney one year, the kids liked our rest stop so much that they said the best part of the vacation was collecting pine cones at the rest stop :earseek: So much for the $2500 we spent at Disney..... Lunchables or graham crackers might be a good option too. I also bring large ziploc bags to put the opened chips in, so they don't get spilled in the car or hotel room.

Have fun on your trip, and happy snacking :D

cheese cubes
yogurt, applesauce and pudding now come in the squeeze tube. Less mess.
pepperoni (less wet, than other lunchmeats)
peanuts
slim jims

Bagles, the drinkable youghart (sp), Krave bars, the tuna/cracker (has the mini mayo in them)setups...you have already gotten a lot of my other faves.

My kids love...
String cheese or cheese cubes
grapes
sunflower seeds
goldfish crackers
Little Debbie powdered donuts

One more quick tip... We buy the small Dixie Cups (bathroom or kitchen size) with Mickey on them to use for snack cups. These work great in the car and even at the parks for serving up quick snacks.

Cheese n sticks/cheese n crackers
Twizzlers (fun, easy to eat and no mess)
those crackers that come with the pb&j (Smuckers)
make some popcorn and put it in a ziplock bag
fruit and individual caramel dip
Dunkaroos

Have fun on your trip! :moped:

Any kind of fresh or dried fruit
Cheese cubes
Carrot/celery sticks
Bagel Sandwiches!!! (slice a bagel and put whatever you like in there-- tuna and chicken salad are my favs-- won't get soggy like bread will; even after hours in a cooler)

Besides what has already been mentioned and if you're especially ambitious :D you can always make snacks, like homemade granola bars, muffins, quick breads, fruit rollups or dehydrated/dried fruit, beef or turkey jerky, or something easy like trail mix made with cereal, dried fruit, chocolate or other small candies, nuts if you're not allergic, etc.

My kids tend to choose chicken nuggets and pizza at most restaurants, so I try to "balance that out" with healthier choices in the room:

plenty of fresh fruit
healthy cereals
cheese
yogurt
nuts

I have most of those things on the list as well as homemade Chex mix (I hate the store bought) and also instant oatmeal for a few breakfasts in the room since it has a coffee maker. If you are going in a car, hard boiled eggs are also good to place in the cooler and have for breakfast with a muffin..

Also a hint from my mom that works great, place as many cooler items as you can in those new throw away tupperware like bowls, they keep everything cold but dry and then when you get to the hotel they can become cereal or snack bowls.

Last trip we took

homemade cookies
cheese cubes
hamrolls (spread cream cheese on sliced ham and roll up! )
tiny sandwiches (made PB&J, pimento cheese, and tuna salad on dinner rolls)
chex mix
candy necklaces
fruit kabobs (skewered pineapple, melon, grapes, and strawberries.. after you skewer them take kitchen scissors and chop off the pointy end)
frozen drink boxes (cut the top off and you have an icee!)
go-gurt (yogurt in portable tubes AWESOME!)

everything goes into ziplocks. took a grabage bag, and baby wipes to clean up!

Uncrustables! I love 'em.. yes, I know they are supposed to be for kids.. but who says grownups can't like 'em too? They have them in regular pb&j .. pb&strawberry jelly... and grill cheese.. I haven't tried the cheese..but a friend said she wasn't crazy about it.. What's nice is that you grab 'em from the freezer, throw them in the cooler for your trip, and by the time you are ready for a snack, they are thawed out :)

I like some of the other ideas above too... a few things that I had never thought of!
