Ideas for cooking out at FW? Tenting and need ideas

An electric skillet will enable you to make hotcakes in the morning. We saw that on one camping trip from other tent campers and thought it was brilliant.

Just bring the container bisquick pancake mix--it is just add water and no bowls are needed to mix it up.

I'm glad someone asked this question because I was wondering about it myself. The recipes sound good!

A couple more questions I wanted to ask though. Do you use coolers & just get ice from the comfort stations to refill them?

We have a plug in cooler--you just place a frozen bottle of liquid (like a 2 litre) and it served as a fridge for days for us. It doens't really get things cold very well...but it is excellent at keeping things cold.

We plug it into a cigarette lighter en route--and then once there, just plug it in an outlet (as long as one is availalbe..we've always gone full hookup even with tent camping).

While we are on the subject does anyone or has anyone froze bacon, this is about the only thing I would like to freeze to have for later. Did it turn out any good ? I plan on eating out alot but wanted to do some breakfast in the tt. Any problems with ants there ? I would like to bring a cake and have it sitting on the counter ( covered of course ) ? Forgive me for just jumping in.

Have to add our favorite easy breakfast.

You can get a bag of Bob Evans sausage gravy at GFS (it seems more like the restaurant than what you get in smaller bags at the regular groceries). You boil it in the bag. Tear up 2 or 3 pieces of bread each onto paper plates. cut the corner off the bag to pour on the bread. eat with plastic forks. YEEHAW! nothing to clean, extremely hearty breakfast.

We buy the Hormel pre-cooked bacon in the refrigerator case at Wal-Mart and we really enjoy it. We just take out a couple of slices and nuke for 5-10 seconds. It is great for individual meals, sandwiches, whatever. Just make sure you get the right kind--we messed up once and got a different Hormel product where you had to microwave a plastic bag of bacon. I'd put what the label says, but of course I ran out yesterday. I'll post again after the grocery trip and put exactly what it is called.

Okay, the Bob Evans sausage gravy sounds yummy, but what is GFS?

Sorry! maybe its a regional store - Gordon's Food Service, its a restaurant supply store that is open to the public.

Okay, the Hormel bacon says 'fully cooked' and 'ready to serve'. Don't get the kind that says 'microwave ready' unless you want to cook it and cook a lot!

To the person who asked about freezing bacon. We freeze bacon at home all the time because we don't eat it very often. Tastes exactly the same when you cook it even if you are cooking a frozen slice. The main problem is pulling off the amount you want to cook any given day (frozen together).
