Tuesday is my school's character dress up day and I would like to dress up. I am a woman with long brown hair. I need something easy, inexpensive and that I can move around in. Any ideas?

Do you have anyplace where you could get a "Dr. Suess" type hat? It would be really easy to use that and something black to become the cat-in-the-hat.

What grade do you teach? I know someone who taught 1st grade, and came as "that" obnoxious 1st grade girl, who has a series of books. I just can't think of her name. Didn't really like her books, because she did not talk gramatically correct.

Or - there is always Mrs. Frizzle.

And - I keep thinking there is a Mrs. Higgle Piggle...but that one isn't coming up on a google search ETA - it is Mrs Piggle Wiggle NOT Mrs. Higgle Piggle. (heh - DD is almost 16, it has been a few years!)

What about Viola Swamp from Miss Nelson is Missing? OR is it Mrs. Nelson is Missing.

I teach PreK/K so I can't be anything to scary either. Wonder if I could find a stove pipe hat at the party store for Cat in the Hat?

Could you be a "little critter"??? From Mercer Mayer's series of books?

What about Max from the Wild Things???

Arthur: yellow sweater over white collar shirt, blue jeans, round glasses, and you can make ears using a headband and that soft foam paper they sell at the dollar store or michaels.

Party stores definitely have the Cat in the Hat hat.

The one I had required some reinforcement to make it stand up; I used a Pellon type fabric -- the stuff that you line suit lapels with. Just cut the fabric a bit shorter than the hat, roll the fabric up, and place it into the hat.

Our teachers i 3rd grade dress up like characters from WhoVille...with crazy hair and mismatched clothes.

They may be too young for the book but would they know Hermione from Harry Potter because of the movies? Your hair sounds perfect and then just throw on a black robe or gown (do you have a black college graduation gown?) and get a white stuffed cat and a wand.

Belle, a simple blue dress with a white apron...you could carry a book!

Whatever you decide, have fun! :)

Librarian dh says...
Amelia Bedalia
Fancy Nancy
Junie B. Jones

Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz--blue dress, picnic basket, stuffed dog

The Man in the Yellow Hat- yellow top and slacks (thrift store) and funny yellow hat, borrow a monkey stuffed animal. This is my husband's costume every Halloween handing out candy, he is always really popular with kids and adults.

You could be the spider from Charolette's Web? All black and attached "arms" to your body.

Thing 1 or 2, dress all in red then make the labels for your shirt.

The Grinch. (or is he too scary)

Oooh...so many good ideas!
I was Bo Peep one year. White blouse, puffy skirt, mary janes, and a ribbon in my hair. I made a shepherd's crook out of a broom handle and a bent hanger and covered it with brown paper.

The best one I saw EVER- from The Teacher from the Black Lagoon

The teacher played the part almost all day and the kids believed her (kindergarten)

they kept saying "I want miss so-and-so back, this lady is MEAN!" :rotfl:

I was going to say Dolores Umbridge- but kindergarten kids probably wouldnt' get it.
