Ideas for celebrating a birthday on the cruise?

Our son will be turning 5 on the podcast cruise. He is so excited about being on a boat on his birthday!

Does anyone have any ideas of things we can do to make his birthday a little more special? (I know that being on a cruise is special, but he's a kid, so birthdays are a big deal!) This is our first cruise, so I'm not sure what is available for something like this.

Thanks!

They will bring birthday cake to your dinner table for him and they will all sing happy birthday as well. This is usually automatic but I would definitely mention it to your servers as well, just to make sure they know.

Also, if you are going to be in the parks before hand pick up a B'day button as they don't always have them on the ship. I wore mine last year and everyone made a huge deal over it all day as well.

Maybe if he is in the kids club you can mention it to the staff there as well so that they sing to him as well.

All of the above suggestions are great ideas. :thumbsup2
Last time we cruised we were celebrating our anniversary and each of our kids' birthday (18 & 21)- and they brought out birthday/anniversary cakes on different nights and made it special for us.

I wanted to add a couple more.

You can bring a few decorations to make your stateroom "special" for his birthday.

You can order a customized gift "basket" from Shirley.
Check out this thread- it's loaded with ideas and photos of things she has done for others in the past as well as contact information for Shirley.
She customized each basket after she talks with you on the phone- so you have a lot of control over what's in or not.

I think I'm going to order one for DH "just because!" :cool1:

Once the event schedule is out, maybe a group singing happy B-day to your son can be arranged. He would feel really special if ALL of us sang to him on his Birthday. That's lots of DIS'ers!

What day is his birthday?
I know a few disers will be having their birthday on the cruise, there is a thread further down to post what you are celebrating.
I will be celebrating my birthday on Dec 14th.
Definitely bring some decorations, and some balloons you can just blow up with air. You can sneak off at one point and decorate your cabin. Get him a birthday button or even bring some birthday hats, blowouts, centerpiece to your dinner table, I am sure this will get some special attention!
:bday: to your DS

We'll be celebrating 4 birthday's on the cruise! My dad's birthday is the 10th, cousins the 13th, mine 19th, and my sons first birthday will be the 19th of November, but we are celebrating on the cruise anyways!

Great ideas about the birthday button! We've used it in the parks, but I never even thought about bringing it on the cruise! We'll also make sure to let the servers and kids club know.

Can these be delivered on the special day or are they in your stateroom when you arrive?

Don - He's extremely outgoing - he would LOVE that! He listens to the podcast (loves the app!) and has his DIS Unplugged shirt - he's a mini DISer!

His birthday is the 15th. Our anniversary is the 14th, so we'll be celebrating that as well! I think I did post on that thread awhile ago, I'll have to check. Great idea about the decorations - we did that in our WDW hotel room on his 2nd birthday and he loved it! (Spoiled kid, huh? 2 bdays at WDW? :) Actually, my DH teaches college, so we always go over winter break.)

Leah,
Make sure they have the celebrations listed in your reservation, too.

I think Shirley's Gifts are delivered 1st day, someone will correct me if I am wrong.

That's my understanding too Tracey.
I don't know if you can arrange directly with DCL to have it delivered later? I'm not sure if they'd have anyplace to store it- or if they'd remember to deliver it on the right day.
I'd just tell him the WHOLE CRUISE is to celebrate his birthday- and let him have the basket right from the start. party:
