Hi guys,

Im having my dream wedding at the pavillion followed by reception at living seas and DP at UK Terrace. My planning is coming along nicely (thanks to all the info on here).

I will be having 3 bridesmaids, My niece/Goddaughter will be exactly 1 year old by then and I know she will be too little to really have an official role but I really want to involve her somehow and I know it would make my brother very proud. I just dont know what I could do, maybe ringbearer? Has anyone any cute ideas?

Thanks in advance

Maybe name her in your programs as "Honorary Flower Girl" and give her a ribbon wand in your wedding colors to hold? It might even amuse her during the ceremony and keep her from getting fussy! ;)

I've seen many brides have younger (non-walking) babies as flower girls and it's just adorable!! The usually have someone walk down with them, or put them in a wagon all decorated. Good luck!!:goodvibes

I have this same issue, my DF will have a niece turning 1 around the time of our wedding. I want to include her but we weren't planning on having a bridal party or FG or RB. I really like the wand idea and the wagon idea, both. Thanks! :goodvibes

That's a good idea. :) If she's walking, you could get her a special dress in your colors and have her hold the hand of one of your bridesmaids (especially if her mom is one of them) to go down the aisle. When my son was 20 months, he was my brother's ring bearer and went down with the 10yo flower girl. It was so cute ... the ushers laid the runner down upside-down, so ds' little feet kept sticking to it and the flower girl had to keep un-sticking him the whole way. :cutie:

Aw thanks girls, really cute ideas!

I love the idea of putting her name on program as honorary flower girl and the wee wand would definately keep her busy ha!

I will see how far she comes along closer to the time, she may be walking! According to my brother she definately will be - as she is a genius of course!:teacher:

thanks again

My new nephew (and only nephew) will be around 15 months at my wedding (he was born dec 30, 2010) and I am going to have him be my ring bearer. If he can walk then I will have him walk down the aisle to his mommy or have my sister in law carry him down the aisle. I think he will be so cute in a tiny tux.

Aw your nephew will be just adorable!

Thats it sorted im going to start encouraging olivia to start walking!

I had my two little nieces involved. The oldest, who was 3 at the time was my flower girl and she walked in with my MOH. She was dressed as Snow White and had a daisy "magic wand". My other niece was only 9 months and wasn't in the wedding, but she sat on the front row with her parents (my brother and his wife). She was dressed as Cinderella and had a great time.

The biggest suggestion that I can give is if you have a child that is 2 or younger (and maybe even 3-4 years) as part of your wedding party...have their parents sit as close to the front on an isle seat so the child can walk to them and sit with them.

Also, know that walking down the isle can be very scary and lots of younger children cry and won't do it. Be prepared for that and let whoever is helping to tell them when it is time to go know that it is okay if they don't walk and don't try to force them. Also, it is always better if the little ones (1-3 years) walk with one of the bridesmaids holding their hand (especially if it is a mom, aunt or someone that they know). But again, have the bridesmaid drop them with a parent that they can sit with.

Most children that age get very distracted and can not stand through even a relatively short ceremony. They end up sitting, playing with what ever you gave them to hold, picking their nose (yes I have seen this at several weddings), twirling in their dresses, etc. Yes this can all be very cute but...

Remember the wedding is about you and your soon to be husband and the attention should be on you. It is so much fun to have a beautiful/cute child as a part of your wedding and everyone loves to see them walk down the isle. Have that special moment where your guests light up at the adorable child, but then have them sit with their parents so you get your moment too.
