Tomorrow is the Christmas party at my school and it involves a potluck dinner. Because it's mostly students going, I imagine that the desserts, rolls and beverage are taken care of. So, I wanted to make a casserole or something like that. Do you have any suggestions? I want something that's more or less fool-proof to make. Thanks.

saute one onion (chopped) and put in the bottom of your crockpot. Add 1 can french style green beans (drained), 1 can kidney beans (drained), 1 can pork 'n beans (not drained), 2 cans ranch style beans (not drained), 3/4 cup of brown sugar and half a small jar of chili sauce. Stir it all up and cook on high for 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally.

The nice thing about this (besides it being yummy) is that you don't have to wait in line at the microwave to get it hot.

Crockpots are awesome for this type of thing if you have one available. My 2 favorite easiest (and everyone seems to enjoy) things are:

Cocktail franks, Kielbasa, Meatballs
10 ounce jar chili sauce
10 ounce jar grape jelly

Throw everything in the crockpot & cook till heated through - Jelly melts and mixes with the chili sauce to make a great barbecue sauce. Very tasty & simple. You can serve as is or over white rice for more of a meal.

Other one is (shhhh, people think I make them :thumbsup2 )
Go to the supermarket (I go to BJ's or Sams) and buy a big bag of the frozen meatballs. Put them into a crockpot with a jar of tomato sauce and turn on. Meatballs are moist as can be and people can either again eat them as is or make sure there will be some type of rolls/bread & cheese and they could make their own meatball sandwiches.

There is also a recipe on the boards for crockpot mac & cheese:

that I am dying to try out.

And here are some desserts you could do also:

Thank you all for the suggestions so far. I'm still not sure what I'm going to decide on. If you have any more suggestions, feel free. I think using the crockpot is a great suggestion.

A crockpot of chili would be nice. I just make a basic pot of chili for a crowd. Just brown some ground beef. Add light red kidney beans (rinsed & drained), a large can of crushed tomatoes, chopped onions and green pepper. Add some spices. (I think there is a packet of chili spices available.) Stir occasionally. You could bring some sour cream, fritos or tortilla chips, and/or shredded cheddar cheese. Whenever I made this for pot lucks there wouldn't be any left! HTH! :)
