We are planning on a Saturday at Cape Cod after a visit to Boston at the end of September. We have never been, so not sure what areas to viist that would offer the best views. I would like to spend the night on the Island at a hotel on the water, but keep it around 75-100 for the night. Any suggestions would be great.
Also any ideas of things that are must see and a good casual seafood places.

You said, "on the island." Are you referring to either Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard? Besides those, the Cape is actually not an island. Let me know, and I can give a couple suggestions. By the way I doubt you can find a hotel on MV or Nantucket at any point year round; under $100.

i was sorta thinkin that, too, dave...right now rooms at the Travelodge in newport are $150+ nite...and will stay that high until after Labor Day.

I don't think you'll find anything for under $100, even at the end of Sept.

we have stayed at Riviera Beach Resort in South Yarmouth in September for $125.

the website quotes it more, but we do the same thing every time we go, we don't make a reservation and just show up and ask what they have available and the best price they can do. It is never sold out in September.
one year the manager gave us an oceanfront room for $100 a night.
we have stayed there several times

We have also stayed in Sandwich in September for less than $100 at this place

It was clean, the owners were very nice.

We stayed in a B&B in Chatham that was lovely and reasonably priced. You can't walk to the beach, but it was a pretty short drive. I can't remember the name of it, unfortunately :/

We also stayed here once, and it was amazing: http://www.lingerlongerbythesea.com/

It's on the bay, in Brewster. So you don't get the wave action, but you're right on the water, and it was neat because at night and in the morning you could walk out on the tidal flats so far that your cottage was just a speck in the distance.

Here's another vote for Red Jacket's Riviera Beach Resort. Awesome hotel right on the ocean. You might get a rate $10-15 cheaper if you have AAA.

thank you to everyone for your suggestions- I think we'll play it by ear with the weather that weekend before I make reservations.

I will be in Cape Cod (Hyannis) Sept 8 -11. We are flying into Boston and then driving to Cape Cod. Tagging along with my husband while he is at a conference. I can message you when I return with what I found for places to eat and visit.

Hopefully Hurricane Irene will not cause too much damage and cancel the conference.
