We live for Florida in 21 days and I'm trying to think of some things to do for my boys while standing in lines for rides. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

A good round of I Spy works for us.....20 questions....and we also are huge fans of Brain Quest Cards. They fit in my belt pack and the kids love them. Usually when we find ourselves in line other kids around us will pipe in and play, too.

Someone mentioned in another thread some Disney Trivia cards they had found. We haven't tried them yet, but that seems like it would be a great idea.

Best advice....use Fastpass and get to the parks when they open. That way you can avoid a lot of lines all together.

Good Luck!

We leave in 20 days...also with a four and six year-old. For our trip in April, I brought a few things with me for the lines...DS's Gameboy, a small number-sorting puzzle, a pad of paper and pen for tic-tac-toe or hangman...but we never used any of it. We got Fastpasses when available, and we never waited in a line that said the wait time was longer than 20 minutes. Even when we did have to wait, the lines were always moving, so there wasn't really an opportunity to take anything out because as soon as we did, we would be moving again and have to pay attention to where we were going. The only times we were standing or sitting still waiting was for the start of Fantasmic, the start of Spectromagic, and for the Lion King theater to admit us in for the show. For the first two, I occupied the children with popcorn, and for the last, we had just been on the safari, so there was a lot to talk about.

This time I will probably just bring the paper and pen because it is good for the restaurants, but I will leave everything else at the hotel.

Have fun!

You can buy a Disney Trivia Game at WDW. They are fairly cheap, and resemble a GameBoy shaped like a Mickey head. It has some trivia questions that would definitely keep them occupied. Have fun down there! ::MickeyMo

  • Search for Hidden Mickeys
  • WDW Trivia game
  • I Spy
  • Rock Paper Scissors
  • Have them look at their own park maps, ask them to find attractions or locations on their map
  • Altenate between rides with long lines and those with no or short line
  • Carry a small Matchbox car for each of them or some other small sturdy toy. Take it out only when waiting in line.

I know some people think bubbles are a good idea. I'd ask that it be reconsidered for 2 reasons:--my DS has a form of autism and has had a meltdown when someone was blowing bubbles and they kept getting on him. He is normally fine in lines and we had to leave the line because he was so bothered by it. Secondly, my DH wears a cochler implant now and used to wear 2 hearing aids. He needs to be really careful about not getting that type of thing wet or covered with bubbles. Just my .02!

GL with your trip planning! :)

Yes, Gameboys worked well for my ds 7 and 3. Easy to slip in a pocket or purse when time to board.

I gave both my 4 and 6 year old a small notebook and before I left I gathered a bunch of stickers, Disney and non-Disney. I cut the stickers apart and made a game out of who could pick the most Disney stickers. I had them pick from a baggie or from my hand. It occupied them because once they picked the sticker they had to stick it in their books and they kept comparing each other's books to see who had the most Disney stickers. They actually kept asking me if they could "play again" all week. It was portable and I kept everything in the baggie and could pull it out in a moment's notice. Have a great time!!!
