Idea For Christmas Cookies...?

I'm thinking of making my Christmas sugar cookies a little more festive this year. I'm thinking of dyeing some of the dough red and some of the dough green to make red and green sugar cookies with coordinating sugar sprinkles. If you were presented these on a platter of Christmas cookies, would you think they looked gross or would you think they looked interesting? Would you try one?

:confused3

I've seen this done before, so it's not weird at all! I've seen some really cute things done with it, too. I remember seeing the dough rolled into ropes, then cut, and a red strip and plain strip twisted together and shaped to look like a candy cane, really cute! Maybe use cookie cutters on the green ones to make holly leaves or wreaths, trees, etc.

I was just telling DH today that I wanted to bake Christmas cookies. (I bake like once every 5 years. I think I'm due, though...) :)

Here's an even easier way to do this. Make your sugar cookies as usual. I use a round cutter to make them all the same. Before baking them, I sprinkle them with powdered jell-o. You can do any flavor. Just make sure you do it before baking. Bake them as usual. They are wonderful! Great flavor and they look great!

Sounds interesting! Do you cover them all over, or just on the top? Does it turn the whole cookie the same color? Can I use other cutters besides round? Do they taste like, let's say, cherry?

I usually just sprinkle them on the top. If you wanted, you could roll teaspoons of dough in the jello and then flatten them with the bottom of the glass before baking. You can use any cookie cutters you have! They don't color the whole cookie, but they do end up tasting like the flavor of jello. It's not overpowering, though. My kids love them and request cookies this way instead of covered with frosting.
