Hi,
Just a quick question. Visiting for the first time, and I was wondering...do I need to carry my passport at all times as ID and proof of age. Will my UK photo card driving licence be OK. I know I need my passport for cashing travellers checks, but will I need it to prove I'm legally old enough to drink over there?

Cheers:Pinkbounc

Hi,
Any sort of photo ID with DOB on it is fine, it doesn't have to be your passport.

A *MAJOR* pain in the (|).

I haven't got one of the new licences so I'm not sure if this has your age on it. Carrying your passort is a hassle, but no more difficult to look after than cash or credit cards.

I find it really irritating to be asked for ID when I'm obviously over 21(no really, don't flatter me!) and am with MIL and FIL. We went in March 1999 during American Spring Break, one or two(!) fake ID's must have been flying around as surely if you are at college you are between 16 and 21 ? We saw hordes of young'uns in Universal with those round the neck tubes full of beer, yet trying to buy 3 beers whith only 2 of us at the counter was beyond a joke, we had to bring FIL to the counter before we were allowed to take the 3 beers away.

When we went in Dec we decided not to indulge in any alcholic drinks in the parks with that attitude(and price!). Away from the parks the situation was normal, if you are borderline then I'm sure they would also ask for ID but we didn't encounter this being 34/35/55/56.

The new Photo id driving licence is fine. Remember you don't just need it for drinking, you need it if you pay by credit card ( at some places), also becasue of the extra security you need to show ID when entering the Disney resorts and Golf courses.
The paper bit that comes with the photo id is not required when hiring a car so I find this licence great news.:D

During our recent 3 week trip, we were not asked for ID once. They even let us on Pleasure Island without checking. I admit that I am 50 but that usually surprises people as I do not look it (more like 150 at the moment).

We do have the new photo driving licenses and always took them with us and left the passports at the villa. We were never asked for ID when cashing $50 travellers cheques either.
