We are planning on doing on-line check this time around, however, since we have a large group checking in does everyone in our party need to show ID? Also, should my grandsons have done sort of ID to verify age? They are little guys 2 & 4.

We've never done online check in and there are only 4 of us when we travel, but only one person (myself) has ever had to show ID when checking in. If you have multiple reservations, they may require 1 adult from each reservation to show ID, but other than that, it is not required for everyone. Your grandsons will not have to show any type of ID to prove their age ;).

Question about this. Our reservation is under my name. I would prefer to wait in the car with the kids while DH checks in, is that ok, or since the reservation is under my name is it me who has to check in while DH waits in the car. We would rather wait and see if we need to drive to a closer parking lot to our room.

If the reservation is under your name, you must be the one to go to the front desk to check in.

It doesn't have to be the lead guest. Any adult listed on the reservation can check in.

OP, you may want to check with your airline about identification for the little ones. Some require identification, regardless of age. Just FYI.

They may require proof of age for lap children but the TSA doesn't require id to fly if under 18.

Q. What ID is needed for minors traveling domestically?
A. Minor children (younger than 18) are not required to provide an ID at the airport security checkpoint. They will just need their boarding pass.
