My DD & SIL are taking our 2.5 yr old Granddaughter to WDW. She will be in a stroller, but is quite the active "friendly" type. I read about ID tags for shoes? Where can you get them. Also, anyone know where you could get the "Leash" (for lack of a better word) that Mom or Dad could put on their arm, and have it on her to keep her nearby. It's been a lonnnggg time since we travelled with a little one :earsboy:

I don't know about the ID tags, but you can buy a harness at Target. At least that was the only place we found one last year. We have used a harness on all of our kids and enjoy having the peace of mind that our child is nearby.

We engraved a tag at Petsmart - a cute heart shape. We put Colin's first name plus both of our cell phone numbers.

ID Tag machines are also in Walmart. Lots of shapes and colors to chose from, key in the info you want, makes it right then.......couldn't be easier. Twenty years ago I had to special order those tags for DS shoes but well worth it. They can't get them off, people notice them (but can't read unless up close) so if they get lost it will be noticed. With a little girl, add a couple pretty beads to the shoelaces on either side and she'll think it is "shoe jewelry".

We just made one for our DS this week at Walmart!
Only $6.00!!
Ours had the machine out in the vestibule area,
near the gumballs & kiddie ride.
We got the American Flag - it's oblong & holds four lines.
We put his first name, birthdate, Mommy Cell, & Daddy Cell.
It has a nice hole in it so it went right onto his shoe, no problem!

Thanks for the tip, I am going to head over there this week and see if ours has one. I would have never thought to look there!

:earsgirl: What a great idea!!!! Thanks for sharing...I' still remembered when I got lost at Sea World in my first trip with my mom at Disney World I was 4 years old....And always my mom talk to me about this inccident and to supervise my children at this parks.

We bought the shoe ID's. We had seen on the DIS that they were going to be featured on ABC's The View. At the time, you could type the code of TheView and get a couple dollars off the shoe ID's.

Yikes! That's the kind of traumatic event
that sticks with you - sorry that happened to you!

We had our tags made at Walmart (in the outside of the store where the gum ball machines are etc.) DS had a flag made, DD had a heart and little DD had a circle. When we got to Disney DS had another made at the Pet Store in DTD that is a Mickey! The front is Mickey...colored...white face, black ears, eyes, nose etc. It is so cute!!! They had a few others to choose from. I think they were more than the $5.00 we paid at Walmart but is is so cute. On his shoe all you can see is the Mickey face, if you turn it over all his info is there. On the ones we made at home we put the hotel we were staying at and our cell phone #. We can't use them again but that's ok. I wonder now can Disney look up the child's name and find out where they are staying??? Last trip the children were fine but we lost DADDY in DTD. We were seperated in The World of Disney.........we looked and looked. We had dinner ressies at the House of Blues so off we all went figuring Daddy would know to go there and meet us for our dinner reservations....nope. We waited, and waited....no DAddy. We walked back to World of Disney and left a note with the man at the register where we had been standing......we talked to security, no Daddy. We went to the van...no Daddy. We left a note on the van saying we were going back to the hotel. I called the hotel and left a message on our voice mail telling him we were taking the bus back to the hotel. We were tired, hungry and MAD. Daddy had most of the $ and the diaper bag. We got on the bus, went back to the hotel , had a nice dinner in the food court (POR) and then went back to the room....there was Daddy. First I was happy to see him then I wanted to kill him!!! He never even thought to look on the van, or check with security or go to the restuarant.......Grrrrrrrrrrr....he just walked around and around looking for us for HOURS!!!. This time we will take the cell phones....both of them and I think a tag for Daddy's shoe may be a great idea!!!! I wonder if he would like a Mickey or a heart.

Forget the Mickey,
I'd go to the pet store & get him a dogbone ID.
That will be a reminder that if he does it again
he will really be in the "dog house."

Sorry - I couldn't resist! :teeth:

This may sound stupid, but do the dog tags get white shoes dirty? I was thinking of making one for my daughter, though she'll only be 13-14 months on our trip, just to be extra safe. She's got those little white Stride Rite shoes, the ones that look like old fashioned baby shoes, but with the sneaker bottom, and I'd rather not put on a dog tag if it's going to rub on the shoe and make a metal line. I know it sounds silly, but I'm weird like that. I'd get those other shoe id tags if that will be the case, but the dog tag would be easier. Thanks!

Sorry, no help here.
We just got our first one last weekend,
so haven't had time to see.

If memory serves me some of the tags are actually very hard plastic, not metal. I would go look at them.

I have made the engraved tags for my girls shoes when they go on school feild trips ( just to ease my mind and theirs) but they were eight dollars each. The first time we went to disney I actually asked at my doctors office were I could find medical bands that they put on you in the hospital. They actually gave me some to use. The girls were 2 and 4 at the time so I wanted something that they could not get off or lose. This last year ( the girls were 8 & 9) I went to the craft store and bought a whole container of number and letter beads (for about $6.00) and we made ankle bracelets with Dad's pager #. I liked this idea the best because the beads can be reused if numbers change. Also the beads made lots of bracelets. The kids even used them to make necklaces and bracelets that said " I love ***( Insert favorite character)."
