ID needed for flying infant?

A friend who flies frequenly with her son gave me a great tip! Go to your local DMV and have state ids made. They will have your child's vital info, and a picture. It looks like a Drivers License and are fairly inexpensive. We will be doing this for both of our children before our upcoming trip. Mhy friend has used this for her son for several years with no problems.

But you DON'T need ID for kids to fly!!! you can have one of these made if you want but you don't need it for kids only free babies under 2.

I just called one of the airports and I asked about this and they said yes a copy of the birth certificate..I said does it have to be a raised seal and they said yes...so I would call the airline and check with them directly, maybe they're all different.
