I have a lot of points, enough that I can still do a WDW trip in the summer time and use some to hopefully go somewhere else.

How can I find out what my options are for using/trading points to go stay somewhere else with my points?

Realize that using your points outside of booking a DVC resort is usually considered a poor value. Often using them to rent a reservation and using the cash on your other vacations can save you some money.

The member website has info on what your membership entitles you to.

1st it depends on if you bought direct or resale, as to where you can use your points.
2nd RCI, World Passport Collection, ABD, DCL, and any other exchange will require a $95.00 fee to use.

Most on the Dis will tellyou not to do it, cause they are the best "value" for the points. I on the other hand will tell you that they are your points and to do what you wish. I have done RCI, DCL, and some of the collection exchanges and found that all but one were a good use of my points and would do them again. Just do your research on the available places.

hmm how do I know if I bought direct or resale? Im not even sure, I guess i can call Brad (the guy I bought my points from)

So what if I just sold my points to get cash and then used the cash to go stay somewhere. That a good option?

I have around 230pts and will only need 120 to stay at WDW a week this summer so why not sell the other 100 and use that to go somewhere. I dunno, not sure what I can do

Does Brad work for DVC or for a real estate company? If he works for DVC, then you bought them direct. And I think you need at least 160 to trade into RCI. You might be too late to find something via RCI for this summer.

Here on the DIS, "direct" means you bought your contract directly from Disney and "resale" means you bought a contract on the resale market, in other words, you bought a contract from another DVC member, usually through a broker like The Timeshare Store or Fidelity. It's a bit of a misnomer because when you buy directly from Disney you could be buying a contract that Disney bought back from a member or took back through foreclosure, in other words, a resale. So while it would be more correct to say "direct" and "non-direct", we use the terms "direct" and "resale".

I think you mean rent your points rather than sell? If so, yes, some people rent out some of their points to get cash to use for other vacation options. Renting points is another misnomer since it really means making a reservation for someone else with your points and renting them that reservation for cash. The DIS has a Rent/Trade board that you can use to rent out your points. There are also point brokers who find a renter for you in exchange for a percentage of the rental fee.
