Hello all,

I have been a runner for a long time, and it has always been a dream of mine to run in a marathon. I heard about the disney marathon weekend a couple of years ago, but never seriously considered it until recently. I would LOVE to run in the 1/2 in 2009!! It appears that registration through Disney is closed for this event so I guess my first question is, what is the best way to get into the this race? I have seen the links to charitable orgainzations and that is very appealing to me! But what is W.I.S.H. I am confused as to how to join, but it seems like something I'd like to be a part of, from what I see. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

WISH is our trainign support group for rnners adn wlkers of all ages adn we would love fro you to join us. Byu joining, it's just posting and letting us know how your trainig is going. We havea weekely thread that is kind og the backbone of WISH team. Pop in and tell us about yourself.

As for registering, you can go throug a charity or some tour groups may still have spots. Hopefully, someon can give you mroe on specifics groups that you can register through.

Look into Team in Training. They usually have a group that goes to Disney, but it may be different for your local group. The teams for Disney probably haven't stated yet (I think they start in July or Aug.) so you'd have to cal to see if they're panning on doing Disney through your Team in Training chapter.

Team in Training raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You sign up to be on the team, then you raise a certain amount of money for them and they send you to the race. The amount of money you have to raise depends on how far away you live from the race. For example, I live in FL so we can drive to Disney so I think I'd only have to raise about $1,500-$2,000. However, I did a race with them in San Francisco and I had to raise $4,000.

In return for raising the money they train you through weekly running groups with a coach, give you support (you can always call or e-mail your coaches and mentors with questions), fly you to the race, put you up at a hotel, pay for the race and you have a pre and post race party.

I loved my experience and will do it again int he future for sure. Raising the money wasn't easy, but it was easier than I expected with the help they gave me.

Good luck!

Awesome! Thanks. I will definitely check out both Marathon Tours, and Team in Training. I really would love to run for charity, but I'm so nervous about raising the money, and given that I live in CT I'll probably have a hefty sum to raise. But it sounds like it is doable and I love a challenge!

I was SO nervous about raising the money. I almost didn't do it but my DH convinced me I could. TNT really helps you set up your website and your letters and everything and they give you deadlines so you have no choice but to get out there and start asking! :)
