ID for kid's MYW

We are bringing my daughter's friend to WDW with us. I'll be purchasing her MYW pass when we get to the parks. She's 8...will she need an ID? Will they print her name on her pass? Will she need to do the bioscan? Her mom has questions and I don't have answers...(they are not happy about the possibility of their child's fingerprints being on file..)

She will need to put her name on the ticket. They don't scan children. BTW they are not taking fingerprints but a measurement of the distance on your fingers. No need for concern because she won't have to do it.

First of all, you need to let them know that the bioscan has absolutely nothing to do with fingerprints. During the bioscan, a measurement is made of the space between the first and ring fingers. This information is then encoded into the magnetic strip on the ticket. Disney is not taking your friend's daughter's fingerprints. That would be illegal without permission.

As for whether or not she'll need to do the bioscan ... probably not. At 8 years old, she'll be on a child's ticket, and I don't believe they bioscan the kids. Her name will, however, be on the ticket. That's more to discourage theft than anything else.

As for ID ... Disney probably won't require any, unless she gets lost. In which case you'll need some sort of documentation from the girl's parents assuring that you're responsible for her and that her parents are aware of this fact.

This isn't related to your question but just a reminder if you are taking someone else's child to ask them for a copy of their health insurance card(just in case).

It probably wouldn't hurt to go to the drivers liscense office and get her an ID, expecially if you're flying. Not only will you need her health ins. card, but a certified letter from her parents giving you permission to make medical decisions.

When we traveled with our niece and nephew, we did as other posters have mentioned and had IDs made at the Department of Motor Vehicles. I kept the originals with me and put color copies of them in each of their waste packs so they would always have some ID if accidentally separated from us. As also previously mentioned, we obtained signed medical treatment authorization letters from my sister. Since we were traveling by air, we also had a signed notarized letter giving us permission to travel to WDW with the kids so no one would think we were taking the kids without permission. We never needed them, thank goodness, but felt much better by having them. I created all the letters from a software package containing legal forms for families to help insure all the legalese was correct. Have a good trip!
