Sorry, it sounded like a cute title.

Anyone know if ICloud wirelessly syncs podcasts? I don't think it does. If it does, how can I get it to work?

Thanks

I just got the 4S yesterday so I am 100% new at this, but think that isn't possible. The way iCloud was explained to me was that it automatically uploads pics, video, contacts, and calendar updates to the cloud. Podcasts are something done through iTunes. I could be wrong though.

Time to go into the weeds...

If you use IOS5 and set-up a VPN (under network in settings) to your house (make sure that multicast is set-up so that Bonjour will work), you can wirelessly sync your Idevice from anywhere. Just make sure you have a large pipe! Trying to cram a bunch of stuff down there can clog your pipe if it is inadequate.

Was trying to save space on the c drive and didn't know what it was!

How do I get it back?!

Actually, you don't need to do much different in order to sync your iPhone/iPad/Touch/etc wirelessly.

  1. Plug your device into your computer and do a normal sync.
  2. Select the device in the left hand column on iTunes under "Devices"
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and put a check in the box "Sync with this iPhone over wifi"
  4. Click apply
  5. Re-sync the phone one last time while still plugged in.

From then on your devices will automatically sync as long as:
  • They are plugged in and charging
  • They are on the same wifi network as your computer
  • You have iTunes running on your computer

Hope this helps.

I was thinking iOS 4.something did this but agree with Jeff about the iOS 5 procedure.

I've never been able to get VPN to work worth anything on my Apple products.

Apple fixed the PPTP VPN in IOS 5. I can finally VPN back to my house with my Ipad.

"Sync with this over Ipad"

Do I have UNcheck the box re "open Itunes when this Ipad is connected"?

It still doesn't seem to be working.

Shouldn't be needed, its still checked on mine. Try this; re-sync your iPad normally (i.e. plugged in), then simply disconnect it. Don't click on the little "eject" symbol next to it. The iPad should remain in the devices list. If it doesn't you've done something incorrectly.

I went into settings (btw, I am having same problem with new Iphone and with Ipad2( and General found a line for Itunes Wi-fi sync with a "sync now" option. However I get a message that says "sync will resume when "lifebook" is available. Lifebook is the name for my computer.

WHy wouldn't it be "available"?

Well I called Apple Support. Turns out that my Fujitsu Lifebook laptop, my workhorse-confidant, has XP and ICloud does not work with it!

Choices are
- forego ICloud and continue to sync the old and Cheapest" way
- upgrade the present Lifebook. A major overhaul and fairly costly
- get a PC laptop that runs 7. An expense I'd rather not take right now. I just got laid off!
- get a MacBook Pro, heeding after all, my idol Pete. Even more expensive in the short term than a PC although perhaps more cost effective down the line. But the cost! See above:goodvibes

Looks like wired synch for me until I can afford a better solution

- get a PC laptop that runs 7.

I wouldn't rush out to do this regardless. I haven't gotten wifi sync to work initiated either way (from the phone or the computer). I get the same message on my phone that you did.

I expect the issue is a firewall setting. If this were to push podcasts to the iPhone when iTunes downloaded them, I would work harder on this. It just isn't worth it.

ETA: iPad 1 is syncing through wifi without being plugged in and without me changing any settings. Go figure.

Jcb I thought of that too. I have to check that out although I don't know how straightaway .
