We are supposed to go out of Miami on Sat for the MDAS but the weather is sketchy for freezing rain for about 12 hrs prior to and thru our flt time. Due to airline schedules, earlier flts just take us north into weather. Later flights get us there after the boat leaves. If the airlines delays our flt it will be fine because we get in early and there is time for a delay, but if they cancel our particular flight and rebook we won’t make it in time.
If we get stuck, what happens? I wondered if this had happened to anyone else.
Can we just move the cruise to a later date or do we have to cancel, pay penalties, and the file with our cruise insurance? Any input is appreciated. Thx!

If your flight is delayed, causing you to miss boarding the ship you do not get the option to reschedule and no refund. This is where your travel insurance kicks in. Depending on what your policy covers, you should be able to file a claim and hopefully get some if not all back through insurance. If you purchased the insurance through DCL, I think your claim would be denied (because they don't insurance the flights) but then you apply to DCL for a 70% (?) credit to be used on a future cruise within a specified period of time (maybe 1 year).

I should add -- unless you purchased your flights through DCL. Then their insurance covers the full trip. But still read the fine print about what it covers for storm-related flight delays.

One thing to keep in mind is that Disney currently has a 14 day pre-cruise cancellation policy, in which you can cancel & get a full refund from 14 days up until sail date if you're exposed to Covid or have symptoms, no documentation required. So if aside from your travel issues, you happen to notice yourself feeling sick or are exposed to someone with Covid the day before or even day of the cruise, you just have to call them & tell them that, & they'll refund every penny. Just fyi.

Do you have any flexibility with your employer to take an extra vacation day and fly a day earlier and stay in a hotel overnight? With luck you would arrive ahead of the storm and if not, that gives you more flight options to try to reschedule a flight before the ship sails.

You could consider renting a one way car and drive towards a better climate and leave from there.
