Ok I am sitting here eatting icecream and drinking Tea.. My question is, just how far are you willing to travel for GOOD icecream?? :confused3

Here in NJ we have a small family owned icecream parlor called HOFFMANS.. there is one in Point Pleasant and another in Spring Lake.... They have THE BEST icecream I have ever had.. I can't even eat Bryers anymore because it just doesn't work for me... I travel 40 minutes each way to get to Hoffmans just for icecream..

Right now.. I am eatting Peppermint Icecream... It is vanilla with tiny bits and pieces of candycanes/ pepermint candies.. I swear they melt in your mouth..

Ok so am I the ONLY icecream nut out there or what??

Hi Pfishy!

I'm in the minority that doesn't like Hoffman's. There a fairly new place in Lacey (on the east side of Route 9, south of ShopRite -- in the strip mall with Big League Barbers) called Sweet Kate's. They have yummy ice cream.

Never met an ice cream I didn't like. :teeth: There was a time that a local convenience store (no longer in operation) carried their own brands in gallon sizes....delicious! I'd eat it all by myself in a day and a half. That's a LOT of ice cream for one woman to eat alone! Guess it's a good thing they're no longer in business or I'd be too big by now to move. :rotfl: As far as traveling a good distance for ice cream, not necessary for me.

No more than 30 minutes each way. Luckily I have a couple good places in town, so I don't have to drive more than 5 minutes to get to them.

My 14yodd who is a ice cream nut hates Bryers too. I like it.

However recently an "Italian Ice Cream" place opened up and let me tell you, WOW, good stuff. They call it Gelato.

I cannot STAND Baskin and Robbins anymore. The ice cream is soooo creamy.

Unfortunately, all of the Baskin and Robbins in Florida are a small part of Dunkin Doughnuts. They don't care more than about ten flavors. So disappointing. There is a new Ben & Jerry's, but it is about a 20 minute drive and $1.50 toll each way. I mostly eat Godiva ice cream I buy at the grocery store. About once a week, DD and I got to Ghirardelli at DTD. This month they are featuring a Peppermint Hot Fudge Sundae.

what??????????? :earseek: :faint:

Believe it or not, I had the best ice cream of my life last week while on vacation in Ireland. It was a plain vanilla from Silver Pail Dairy. Very creamy and full of vanilla flavor. Yummy. (Surprising, since I usually find vanilla too plain.)
Here in the states, it is usually a brand of Turkey Hill ice cream.

I only have to go about 5 min to Cold Stone to get my fix. The best ice cream I've ever had was from a small cafe in Arles, France.....YUMMMMMMM

We'll go about 5 minutes. My absolute FAVORITE (OK so it's frozen custard) is about 45 minutes away. I have been tempted to take the trip for the custard alone, but never have. So, I always try to "swing by" whenever we're in the city. We also have a Ben & Jerry's about 15 minutes away and we'll go there if we happen to be in that area for dinner, but we won't make a special trip.

OMG i love that place in Pt. Pleasant....my gma took me there! i just had hunka chunka pb fudge at friendlys...yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think i may have to travel to get some...if there are any open!

Another Jersey Girl here! What is it with us and ice cream! I LOVE ICE CREAM, it's my favorite dessert :sunny:

Anyway, when I lived in Toms River we used to go to Mrs. Walker's. YUM! Also, I love the frozen custard at Rita's. But it's a bit too rich to eat plain (like in a cone or a cup) so I get the Gelati (frozen custard layered with real fruit Italian ice!). Rita's Gelati is SOOO good. There are no Rita's up here in New England. DH (who is a New England native) thinks we should open a Rita's up here. :teeth:

I've been to a Coldstone Creamery once and I found it to be too rich and creamy. I like Breyer's, but it is not a "creamy" ice cream. Their peach is excellent though, tastes exactly like peaches and cream, not full of fake peach flavoring or food color.

I am partial to Schwans and they bring it to YOU (home delivery)!

SeaSpray, I LOVE Breyer's peach ice cream. It's my favorite ice cream ever. I love it with bananas, chocolate syrup and sprinkles. Yummy.
