Ice wine at Palo

I see that they list ice wine by the glass at Palo. We're interested in buying a bottle of ice wine. Has anyone ever done this? I can't think of a reason why we wouldn't be able to buy a bottle of it, but I haven't seen it listed. Does anyone know of a site that lists all of the wines that are offered on DCL by the bottle?? Thanks!

P.S. I did see the "apple ice wine" listed on the wine list, but I'm interested in the Inniskillen ice wine that they offer by the glass for $16. at Palo. Anyone ever order this wine by the bottle???

I'm going to have to look over the list again - I love icewine!

I know for many people it's way too sweet, but I could sip away a bottle all by myself during the course of an evening.

I've heard that some people even pour it over ice cream - can't imagine doing that myself but hey, whatever floats their boat (so to speak).

BTW I've had the Inniskillen before - it's a wonderful icewine. I just checked because I thought I might have a bottle of it here in fact, but it's Pillitteri Riesling icewine. I do have a bottle of the Inniskillen Late Harvest Vidal - very close to the icewine, not quite as sweet.

Why buy it on the ship...go to your local liquor store and ask them to order it for you.

We have done this many times with wines/liquor that we find on the cruise ship, and at disney, espcially during the food/wine fest.
It is also cheaper to order it from your local store, and you don't have to pay the extra taxes on it while you are on the ship.

On Long Island..There is a Vineyard Called Pindar..

There Ice wine is the best I have ever tasted..

Its Expensive...But The Sweat Candy Like taste...Is like no Other..

I was thinking about bringing a bottle on Board, but you only get 4 8 ounce glasses...

My hubby is a HUGE fan of this wine. He loves that and Moscato, and even though they are dessert wines, he drinks them with his meal. If you happen to be at Epcot and eat at Canada, they have ice wine in the steakhouse.

Last year for my birthday my son bought me a bottle of Inniskillin ... he didn't know that the bottle he picked up was a vintage I was hoping to find.

I have a few bottles of Pindar and I will admit that it is fairly good, but the Inniskillin is still the best as far as I am concerned.

ITA. I can't drink reds, so if I feel like wine with dinner I order whites no matter what I'm eating. I don't even know any more what it is you're "supposed" to have red vs white with.

On the rare occasion I have had disapproving looks from waiters, and one who tried his best to persuade me to order a red.

I had to tell him that if I had the red, we'd be leaving the restaurant within 15 minutes and I'd have a huge migraine for days. I did NOT appreciate having to explain why I was not ordering the red.

Webray, we'll be flying down from Boston, so I don't want to bring any glass bottles with me. I'm definitely going to check out our local stores though, and see what they carry and what they can order, to drink at home

Hey Bobby I've never heard of Pindar before, I'm going to have to check it out! Hey, I just remembered that we'll be at Palo for dinner at the same time. We'd love to treat you and Cindy to a glass!

Barb and Jason: I totally agree with that. I know there are "wine snobs", but I'm not one of them. LOL I just know what I like, and I don't worry about the "rules".

Amberle3: I get a headache from some wines, too. I know some waiters are only trying to be helpful with their suggestions, but they shouldn't try and talk anyone into something they don't want.

$16 for a glass of icewine? Wow.. Sorry folks, I just have to shake my head when I read this. You see, I grew up in Canada about a 15 minute drive from Inniskillin. Honestly, out of all of the Niagara icewines that are available, Inniskillin's Vidal isn't the best by any means.

I understand that they do let you bring in wine from outside, so I'm defintiely bringing a couple of bottles of <A HREF="http://www.stonechurch.com" TARGET="_blank">Stonechurch</A> Vidal. Their 1991 is the best, but that's gone up in price significantly to $100 CDN a bottle. DW and I were recently up at the vineyard (while visiting my parents) and their 1999 was on sale for $30 a bottle -- so we bought 5 of them. I recently used one up when I went for dinner this past weekend at Mortons, however I'm assuming I'll have to stock up again before the cruise in November. That and the Reserve Cabarnet Sauvignon are favorites of mine.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that $16USD is really sort of taking you for a ride. If there's anyone going on the 11/14 Wonder cruise, I might be able to be convinced to pick you up a bottle of icewine and bring it with me on the cruise provided you pay me for it of course. PM me if you're interested.

I also live quite close to the Niagara wine region, and I find the Inniskillen Icewine IS one of the best available. Sure there are some small wineries with vintage that are wonderful as well, but if you like IceWine, you'll certainly enjoy the Inniskillen.

As for $16 for a glass - well, it's typical of the markup on all wines. It's a vacation - go ahead and indulge yourselves!

How many different icewines have you tried from Niagara? To simply say Inniskillin is the best is somewhat confusing. What year would you say is the best? What type of grape was it?

I grew up in St. Catharines and have tried pretty much every vineyard's icewine out there. In the end, though, they all have different aromas to them and I guess it's whatever is pleasing to our pallets.

Yah, sadly when wine is exported into the US there is a HUUUUUUGE markup on the stuff. You can order it from www.icewineniagara.net but you pay huge dollars for it. Almost worth calling the vineyard and having the stuff shipped to you, if you can talk them into shipping it across the border. I'm just used to paying around $50CDN a bottle for it and to pay $16USD for a TINY glass really miffs me. Better to buy it by the bottle and bring your own to the restaurant.

StuartMI - I believe I said Inniskillen is ONE of the best - not THE best icewine from the region.

BTW - I've tried icewines from Kittling Ridge, Peller Estates, Reif, Konzelman, Hillebrand and Inniskillen in addition to my personal preference, which for the price happens to be Magnotta.

Sure $16 US seems high to Canadians, but it's certainly comparable to ordering icewine in any fine Toronto restaurants. I wouldn't mind paying it after a fine meal at Palo.

Try a Late Harvest Vidal. Almost as sweet as an icewine, but not quite. They come in the same small (half-size, 375ml I think) bottles that the icewine comes in.

I go across the border about every other month, and a while ago the duty free had a special on a the Late Harvest Vidal - a package of 2 for $19.95.

I was very pleased.
