Ice Storm and Space Camp -- Would you go?

I read through the whole thread to figure out where you lived and was amazed that you said Knoxville. I've lived around here my whole life and know how many times the forecast will change.

I would have gone today and spent the night in a hotel below the expected freeze line. If necessary, you could spend Saturday night in a hotel as mentioned above.

We did that one year on Christmas Day. Opened the gifts and piled into the car. Spent the night in Macon, just below the wintry weather. Got up the next morning, had a leisurely breakfast, and drove to Florida in fine weather.

I have a feeling that this is going to be one of those "misses" where it stays just warm enough for most of the ice to miss us here. I'm planning to go to work 30 minutes early and hope the predicted afternoon temps melt enough for me to get home. It is supposed to be sunny and nice by mid-day Saturday here.

I did leave at lunch last Thursday when the snow was coming, but I could have worked a couple of hours later and made it home before the roads got bad.

I'm the biggest chicken in the World about driving in winter weather, but I would have gone. Still, you have to do what you have to do to keep your family safe. Nobody can fault you for that.

I guess that's why I'm not a weather forecaster. I got this one COMPLETELY wrong. I usually get to work at 6 AM. The weather was supposed to hit between 6 and 8, so I thought I'd go in 45 minutes or so early. Walked out of my house at 04:40 and it was already freezing rain.

So I've been iced in all day and will be until sometime tomorrow.

I heard up there near East TN that got it really bad. We got lucky in Chattanooga that we had mostly rain and very light wintery mix.
