ice skating rink at DTD

We were there last year during this week and it was already up (but not open). Maybe someone will chime in and say if anything is going up now?

Well, the area is currently hosting Food Trucks, but that is scheduled to end this weekend. So maybe someone will see the start next week.

They usually announce that with the Holiday announcement each year. There wasn't even a peep this year, which is too bad. Nothing like legs breaking and ankles twisting to make walking around DL more magical! JK. I actually did like them having that up. It made it more Christmas-ee.

I've also not heard anything about Frozen Fun. They had that back in late 2015/early 2016 and we got to catch it. Then in Nov 2016, they opened Olaf's Snow Fest again. I'm not sure if any of this is happening this Christmas season. That was one of my kid's favorite areas. Perfect place to just take a break from everything and play in the snow. But as it seems lately, pay more and get less of everything....well, less of everything except crowds.

Is it really opening again next month? I missed that announcement!

Did any of you do it in the past ?
What was your experience like ?

Oh, man, sorry. I had the wrong years in my post. I meant 2014/15 at first, and then last November of 2015. Blew it! No announcement.

thanks all, hopefully Disney will let us know the holiday announcements soon!

I liked walking past it last year, it added some good Christmas ambiance to the area. Having said that, I would never pay the ridiculous amount they are asking for to skate on that dinky pond.

I hope they do it and by the start of the Christmas stuff. My girls are figure skaters and would love the opportunity to be on the ice (even in rented skates) for a short period of time over our vacation.

as someone who does skate, I wouldn't pay the money they ask (and I do go all out at Disney spending $$) The ice always looked soft or in major need of resurfacing, and if I'm paying that money I want decent ice.

Want a decent place to skate, outdoors, the Irvine Spectrum does a great job with its seasonal rink in the Shoppertainment Mall.Lots of Christmas theming.

But the best place would be the Anaheim Ice, home of the Anaheim Ducks practice facility. A true indoor full sized rink, just up the street from Disneyland.

I have to think most of the people skating there were probably doing it for the novelty of skating at Disney for a few minutes rather than looking for a great skating experience.

My daughter skated for her very first time on that rink in January 2015. She had a blast!

Honestly, it would be for the novelty of ice skating outside in Southern California at DL. I wouldn't expect them to get a good practice in. I haven't told my girls about this, but my oldest asked a few weeks ago if she could take her skates. We are NOT taking the skates, not enough time.
