Ice Skating in DTD...ice rink at Disneyland

I knew it!! We saw them building it the weekend of 10/5-10/7 when we were there and it was just a base and a roof, with some plexiglas panels laying around and I told DH, "wouldn't it be awesome if it was an ice rink?" so excited for our December trip.

You are very impressive! I was so hot, ice skating was the furthest thing from my mind, LOL.

The link said Grand Opening was Oct 23rd.

Copied from article in link
"And starting November 12, a special holiday village will surround the rink, with themed chalets where guests can purchase seasonal foods and merchandise."

It would be nice to see a few pictures as the seasons change.

We aren't there until the very end of January.

I'm kind of disappointed with how much it costs. I know it's Disney, but the prices are pretty high (I think $15 and $13) and they only have double bladed skates for the little kids - my DD4 has been skating on regular skates for 2 years. So I think we're going to pass :(

Does anyone know if this will be open year round or if it's only seasonal? Thanks!

That's about what it costs in most of those temporary rinks I've seen. It may be a bit less in downtown Sac, but I think it's the same in Union Square.

I would guess that it is seasonal, since it is outdoors, and a trial. Can you see them trying to keep the ice rink frozen in 100+ weather?:rotfl: It would give them a good reason to up the prices again.

They where building this when we were there from Oct 8 to Oct 14.

We walked by it and I said to my DH "why are they buidling a hockey rink in DTD"

Being Canadain, well, it's a darn hockey rink to me.....

The guys building it started laughing, and said I was one of the few who even pointed out their rather tiny zamboni.....I mean the thing is small comparied to what we are used to seeing even for rinks that size :lmao:

Oh, exciting! I hope it's up this early next year or we'll miss it!

They are BOTH up and running. :thumbsup2

The skating rink is amazing! I was there SATURDAY night and looks so festive with everyone skating!!! :goodvibes

EOS had a 'soft' opening yesterday with a grand opening Nov 2nd!!! :goodvibes

Do you have any pictures?

Sorry, no. I am dealing with a broken ankle, and was missing my DL so bad that my DH and other family members decided to go Saturday night. I hobbled (:lmao:) from the loading/unloading area near ESPN Zone to Storytellers (my leg/foot is in a walking air boot). We could see everyone over in front of the EOS, skating. It looks amazing. :thumbsup2

P.s. Moi, will not be skating this winter at all. :sad1:

Good point!

It's free in most of the temporary rinks in the Denver area, and at the one we go to it's $2 to rent skates. We have our own, however. The indoor rinks here average $5 for adults and $3 for kids.

Does anyone know how long you get to skate for. My DD is excited at the idea of an outdoor rink, (maybe not exciting for most people, but I don't know of a single outdoor one here in Australia). :thumbsup2

One hour.

I was over there today.

It is $15 a session and $3 to rent skates. Sessions last an hour, but if you go early in the day when no one is really skating sessions are open. There are only a certain number allowed in the rink (naturally), and when more people start going, then they will time the sessions.

You can also rent a locker during the session for $2, and you can even get socks for $2 if you don't have any.

It will be open through Jan 7th.
