Ice Skating in DTD...ice rink at Disneyland

Oh my gosh, that looks sooo cool!
Thanks for sharing the breaking news :thumbsup2

I remember when they used to have ice skating at the Disneyland Hotel. I'm looking forward to this!

I was so excited when I saw this! It'll be up shortly after I'm there next weekend, but now I'm super excited for my trip in early December!

I was just saying this same thing in the Christmas Superthread today, Mary Jo.

Not only was there an ice skating rink at the DLH, but also Candy Cane Lane even before that (which I loved). Part of Candy Cane Lane included the little tents which sold treats (cocoa and cookies, that kind of thing) and merchandise. Santa had a photo spot there in one of the tents. So it basically sounds as if Downtown Disney is revisiting parts of the old Disneyland Hotel holiday season festivities. I'm very happy about this!

(But it sounds like the reindeer are quite possibly going to be removed from the Round-Up/Holly Jolly Jamboree this year - I'm not happy about that!)

So that's what they were building! It's outdoors under a tent, and they were working feverishly on it the last few days of our trip. Now the plexiglass walls I saw lying on the ground make sense!

How cool! My nieces would love this...maybe I can take them on a special trip? :scratchin

It may take some convincing, but I am sooo getting pics of my boys and DH doing this!! This trip just keeps getting better and better!

Not sure we will actually GO skating when we are there, but we will definitely check out the cute village around it. Sounds awesome. I'm so looking forward to being there during the Christmas season!

We are so excited about this! My daughter learned how to skate last winter and I don't think there would be anything cooler than skating at Disney!

What's wrong here. This can get built from scratch and open fast, but we are Still waiting for our Earl of Sandwich.

Given the location of this rink and village in DTD, I wonder if there will be another DTD Christmas tree contest this year. Did anyone catch that last year? There was a 'Best Tree' contest involving the shops (and I guess the restaurants too?) of Downtown Disney - each DTD business submitted a tree to the contest, and all the trees were decorated in different ways, and they were on display at night just off of the main DTD path, like to the side of the main Christmas tree. Some of the trees - from what I saw in photos - were lovely, but they were only visible at night.

I wonder if the tree contest will take place again this year, or if they will find a way to work it into the new village.

I'll post pictures I took of the mystery structure on the 8th.

If anyone doesn't want to see, look away! I'll give you some room.

And you can see the Earl of Sandwich on the background of the second pic.

I can't tell from the photo. Is the rink blocking the back exit from the Adventure Tower? We loved using that entrance/exit and planned to again on our Nov. trip.

No, it's fully in DTD. In a spot that had plants, etc, before (and something Christmas-y during that season...I think Sherry described it earlier). Not a place you would have crossed directly through even from Adventure.

I had noticed in the previous days that they were ripping out all the plants, etc, from that corner and they were flattening it. I had been sort of sad for the plants and worms and whatnot, but then, any worm that lives on Disneyland property has got to be used to such things by now. :)

The pictures were taken as I walked on my way to do other things (and I had NO idea what it was supposed to be!), so do forgive how snapshot-esque they are!

I knew it!! We saw them building it the weekend of 10/5-10/7 when we were there and it was just a base and a roof, with some plexiglas panels laying around and I told DH, "wouldn't it be awesome if it was an ice rink?" so excited for our December trip.
