How do you keep your ice packs cold when there's no freezer compartment in the resort room fridge?

We're planning our next trip for June and my little one will be switching from formula to milk. In the hot weather, I need a frozen ice pack to keep the milk from spoiling out all day in the sun.

I know if you place items in the back of the fridge, it's possible to get it cold enough to produce some ice crystal, but I need the packs FROZEN.

What do you all do?

I would either delay the switch from formular to milk till after the trip or just buy milk in the single serve cartons as you need it in the parks. I would not try to keep the milk cold without frozen packs.

My baby will be switched over to milk in February and the trip is scheduled for June. Plus I also have a milk loving 4 year old.

I'm going to call the Concierge's desk and see if they'll be able to freeze it for us in the evenings. We'll be staying at the GF in the Sugar Loaf Concierge building. I'm hoping this will be one of the perks of staying Concierge:goodvibes

Unless your DVC and have a freezer or perhaps CL like an above poster there really isn't a good way to freeze an ice pack to keep things cold.

When my kids were on formula I just carried powder and water and mixed as needed - they liked it room temp luckily. After that we just budgeted a little extra $ for milk/juice or water and purchased what we needed through the day. For the resorts you can purchase larger sizes at the gift shops and store that in the fridge - cheaper than in the food courts.

Another option is to use the parmelat milk that dosen't have to stay cold and get a cup of ice to pour it over as needed. My dd's switch between traditional milk and parmelat no problem.

Just FYI- juice bags lke capri sun or minute maide freeze great and then you have a nice cold juice or somtimes a slushy to drink later instead of a warm ice pack. My dd's love the pink lemonade just before it thaws :) Boxes work ok but the bags work really, really well.

Bring along some small brown paper sacks and a marker. Put your icepacks in a sack and prominently mark it with your name, room number and the next day's date. Take it to the resort's restaurant in the evening and ask that it be kept in the freezer for you, then pick it up the next morning. I've never known a restaurant to refuse as long as the bag was clearly marked Guest X, Rm. ####, MM/DD/YY

Be sure that the restaurant you take it to is one that is open during breakfast hours, so that someone will be there when you need to pick it up.
Note that food courts might not be able to accomodate this request, but a full-service restaurant definitely should be able to.

What about the ice packs that when you break them they get cold, my DH uses them for the fire dept.

Or, instead of using an icepack what about putting ice from the hotel ice machine in a plastic bag.

I thought of the instant Ice Packs, but they're for medical purposes and don't last very long.

I've tried the ice in a ziplock once, and it's just a mess. It doesn't last long in the hot Florida sun.

My kids don't drink those juice bags. They're way too sweet. My kids will only drink milk, water and organic Apple & Eve Apple Juice. So a traditional ice pack is necessary.

Ok - sorry:( Not every suggestion works for everyone.

My dd's first choice for a drink is water and they make great healthy choices with food. However, IMHO there is nothing wrong with a nice sweet slushy drink now and then especially on vacation. You could also freeze juice boxes and water bottles. For ariline travel I used frozen grapes or carrots to keep sandwiches fresh since you can't bring an ice pack through security. They also last a long time and serve a dual purpose.

Anyway, I LOVE Not Ursula's idea - you always have good ones!
