Ice machines

the last couple times I've stayed at the fort have been in a motorhome, in two weeks we're going back into a tent. I want to bring our meals for the weekend, but of course the cooler is going to need ice. Can anyone remember or does anyone know if the ice machine in the tent loop is working and if there is a charge?

hmmm... I must say that I have never seen an ice machine and we've stayed in loop 1500 a few times. We've always had to buy bags of ice.....

There are ice machines at the comfort stations (4 sale). You can also pick up ice a bit cheaper at the Hess stations.

There are 15 comfort stations strategically located through the campground. Many loops have their own comfort station; however, some of the smaller loops share a single, centrally located station. The comfort stations are all air conditioned and include private showers, restrooms, laundry rooms, pay and house phones, and ice machines ($2 per 7 lb. bag). They are open 24 hours a day, with the exception of the laundry. The comfort station doors have card key security locks that are activated from midnight to 6 a.m. The comfort stations are clean and are cleaned at least once a day. If you experience any problems, you can use the comfort station's phone to call the front desk.

Also, if the ice machine is not working, report it.
I would bet that it would be fixed fairly quickly.

$2 Quarters only. If you go to the trading post you can charge back to your site. The Ice at the trading post also is better ice and last longer

One hint is the ice machines put out more ice than the provided bags can hold so what I do is take my Ice Chest up to the machine and put it under the shoot and then hold the bag under that and let the excess ice just go into the cooler. There is generally about 1/4 of a bag that you could close more than the bag would hold and close with a twist tie.

On our trips we always take an ice chest with us even tho we also have the 7 cu.ft. refer and the stand alone NORCOLD 40-MRFT refer/freezer. We will keep things like fruits, veggies, etc. in the cooler to save room in the refer for more important items.

You can get a roll of Quarters at the trading post

You can get quarters in change in the laundries in the comfort stations for 1 and 5 dollar bills. Watch for Canadian quarters. Last time I got a few of those in change and they wouldn't work in the ice machines or laundries.

We keep a small cloth zipper bag for quarters in the trailer for things like laundry/ice machines in the every thing drawer in the trailer. DW was straightening up a couple of weeks ago and putting things we brought into the house back in the trailer and comes in an says "guess how much we have in our quarters bag". I said probably 10 or 12 dollars and she said NOPE $26 ... them dang things must have been mating like mice over the winter
