Ice dam repairs?

Over a month ago we suddenly realized we had water damage from ice dams on the roof. (what a February! :sad2:)
The back 3 bedrooms all had water coming in around the windows, and down through the walls so that it appeared as puddles in the carpet! The front of the house didn't do this at all, just the back.
We ended up cutting out part of the carpet in those rooms, and water/fire damage restoration came in and cut out the bottom of the wall (and remove insulation on that part) from the floor up to a foot or foot and a half, from one end of the house to the other.:headache:
Now for the past 6 weeks it's been a nightmare dealing with all of this.
My main question right now is, I was told to get an estimate to fix all the walls, but when I had someone come in they were adamant that the wall should not be "repaired" they need to be completely removed and all new insulation put in. The adjuster said no way that's overkill.
Any experiences??

You might want to find a company that checks for mold. if they find some then the insurance would be more willing to replace the entire wall.
My neighbor across the street had the same thing happen last year. He ignored it after fixing the roof and gutter and repainted with KILZ like the insurance guy told him. In April the entire family got really sick with respiratory problems that wouldn't respond to antibiotics and inhalers. The Dr suggested they test the house for mold. They found so much mold that the house was covered with plastic and they had all the plaster walls removed and replaced, all the wood floors were pulled up and replaced, and they had to get their siding pulled off and replaced. they had to throw out all their upolstered furniture and mattresses.
They lived in a rented furnished house from April until Sept while their house was repaired.
their insurance paid for everything so they were very lucky.

Let me guess.....the north side of the house. Take it from someone who lives in Maine and has dealt with ice dams for years. First ask your insurance company about MOLD and what they're going to cover if/when it appears. When we had an ice dam that a few years ago that leaked into the house because I was lazy (another story) the insurance reccommended just the opposite because they didn't want to have to deal with the mold issues down the road.

I was lazy because I didn't rake the roof after a few storms and it built up. Now even though it's been fixed and I was told it wont happen again I still rake the roof after every storm. This year for only 3 times. Whoo Hoooo!
