Ice Cream Spinoff

I used to go to a Dolly Madison shop while my dad popped into the bar in the same shopping center. The bar had a decent lunch menu, so we'd eat, and then dad would have a drink and I'd go get dessert. Also, we'd take the dedicated bus from the bar to the Broncos games, to alleviate the parking issue (we used to drive and park there, but after his car got broken into twice, he decided the bus was a better option.)

My favorite memory with my dad was one day, we were talking, and I said "when I get my allowance, I'm going to go get three scoops of ice cream and have it for lunch!"...and my dad took me that day to do it. Rocky Road, Spumoni and mint chocolate chip do not mesh real well, but I was so excited.
I took my girls when they were little to DM, and my nieces and nephews as well., as treats and rewards for them doing well. I'd buy the mini cups w/wooden spoons, and bring them home for everyone. I think I missed that little shop more than I missed my family when we moved away.

It wasn't ice cream, but around 1989 they made Micro Magic microwave milkshakes. They were basically frozen solid milkshakes that you thawed in the microwave. The product wasn't around long but they weren't bad!

I loved  Soft Swirl ice cream when I was a kid/teen. I don't know when they quit making them but I can still remember squeezing the life out of the cone to get that last little bit of ice cream on the star tipped plastic top.

Prince Castle used square ice cream scoops with the ice cream in cubes rather than balls.

Thrifty had a similar ice cream scoop but it was cylindrical instead of square. If I remember correctly a singe scoop was 25 cents back in the mid/late 80's (this picture says 5 cents so maybe I am wrong. idk)

Here's the infamous scoop you can still purchase.

Anyone who grew up within about 150 miles of the New Orleans area fondly remembers K&B house-brand ice cream. K&B was a local drugstore chain (bought out by RiteAid 1997). It originally had lunch counters and soda fountains, and though those disappeared in the early 1960's, the house-brand ice cream continued to be sold in containers in the stores. Their special flavor was Creole Cream Cheese, but we typically always bought our ice cream there for home, whatever the flavor.
