Ice Cream Social Info. Needed

We have our DS 's first trip planned for April 22 - April 30 ! Like to know more about the Ice Cream Social. I read that the Garden Grill will be closed between Jan-April. Will it be open by the last week of April? Will they still have the ice cream social? Do I call the 407-WDW-DINE to make a PS for the Ice Cream Social? What characters attend the ice cream social?

I'm not sure if they will be open but if they are closing then likely the social will not be held since it's in the same place.

When we went they had Mickey, Pluto, CHip and Dale. The character interaction there is some of the best I've seen. Mickey actually sat and drew a picture for one dd on her etch sketch.

The Ice Cream Social is held in the Garden Grill restaurant in the Land Pavillion at Epcot. You get seated at a regular table in the restaurant, but you only get ice cream and drinks. The other tables around you may be having lunch or the ice cream. It is not like one big room were everyone is having the same thing. The characters come around to all the tables, just like all the other character meals. We went in November and the characters were Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale dressed in some "farmer" attire. The ice cream is really good and the characters were great. Call 407-WDW-DINE to make PS's. If the Garden Grill is closed, then obviously, you will not be able to attend the ice cream social. I am not sure what dates the Garden Grill will be closed, but WDW-DINE should be able to tell you. I hope this helps.

Here is a picture of the ice cream - I started on it just a bit, before I remembered that I wanted to take a picture. The previous posters are right, the interaction there is next to none!!! I've been to a couple of character meals yet this one was the best. I'm making this character meal a regular!!!

"The Land" is down until March 31st for final installation and re-theming of the pavilion for the new "Soarin'" attraction. From what I understand, it will be open by April.

You should call Disney Dining 90 days out and see if they are taking ressies for those dates.

From what I understand, the Ice Cream Social is great - you get to meet the characters for a fraction of the price charged at other character meals. I know many who find this ideal for younger children who would have a hard time making it all through a normal meal and meeting characters at the same time. Don't hold me to it - but I believe that Chip and Dale are the major characters I hear people meeting here - though I also seem to recall a "farmer" Mickey as well.

This is all subject to change, of course, but I hope it helps you planning! And if you are going the last week of April, chances are you'll be able to catch a preview for "Soarin'" - make sure you keep a look out!

We tried to make a PS for the Ice Cream Social for the first week of March and were told that is closed for a refurb from Jan-March... bummer

I'll second the previous reply. The restaurannt is closed, and there is no ice cream social until it reopens.
