IASW Refurbishment & Rumor

:idea:Or add the dancing hippos from Fantasia to the Jungle Cruise.

I actually would like to see this added to Jungle Cruise, one of my favorite rides.

Love that mug, gutted I didn't see this before we Orlando on Friday :(

:goodvibes

I stand by my original statement.

Leave "it's a small world" alone.

Something are awesome on their own.

Would you paint Tow Mater in the background of a Picasso painting?

Maybe we could place a Disney princess in the red head scene in Pirates.

Maybe place the Mad Hatter in the ballroom scene in Haunted Mansion.

Or add the dancing hippos from Fantasia to the Jungle Cruise.

"it's a small world" is awesome just as it is. Updating the electronics, changing the lighting, doing something with the black 70's acoustical tile ceiling....those are all improvements I can understand.

Adding Disney characters to an artist's vision seems a bit blasphemous to me and if you do some research...you will find that Mary Blair's family felt similarly.

This ride was developed to promote world unity and to show children from around the world. Richard Sherman has described the theme song as a "prayer for peace".

Lilo and Stitch have other homes in the park. Disney characters can be found anywhere. They dont need to reside in "it's a small world".

I know what you are going to say.....they added Captain Jack to Pirates and it was very successful. Fine. Make a movie about children around the world singing about world peace and I will have a different opinion...but placing Jessie from Toy Story in "it's a small world" is wrong in my opinion.

Leave a classic ride alone. It doesnt need to be "improved".

Kevin, have you gone on Small World in Disneyland since it was updated?

Sometimes even classics need to be improved. Think of books. I could walk into Barnes & Noble today and pick up any classic to find a modern cover. Attractions are no different. They are not indestructible from the need to get with the times. And, as long as it's done tastefully, I think that can be a good thing so more generations become interested in the original product.

I used to think this way too and felt that adding the characters was cheap and, dare I say it, blasphemous. However, after going on it while in Cali a few weeks back, I found it to be awesome. I really enjoyed how the Disney characters were nestled in their respective lands. They were not obnoxiously placed and you really had to look for them. I felt it did nothing to harm the concept or experience of the ride. I hope they do it in Florida's version. :thumbsup2

This maybe the best clue that Disney World's version of IASW will add classic Disney characters to the attraction during this current refurbishment.

This merchandise just popped up at the Magic Kingdom a few days ago. It shows Peter Pan flying over IASW character dolls. This could simply be Disneyland merchandise making it's way over to WDW, but who knows for sure.

Again...All of this is just rumor at this point. Disney is still claiming the current refurbishment is only related to queue work. :rolleyes1

Gosh, I sure wish this merchandise was out when I was at WDW in July. I love the mug! I'm wondering if this stuff was put out early like the infamous iPhone cover situation I talked about on FB from Disneyland.

I don't think this is an example of Disneyland merchandise making its way to WDW. Everyone refers to it as "Disneyland park," not Magic Kingdom in Cali; they did not have merchandise that said MK on it either. I have a feeling this is WDW merchandise and I think it was put out on the shelves earlier than they expected it to be. Of course, that is completely okay with me! :woohoo:

Queue work? There is no way it takes that long to work on the queue of IASW! even if they buff the aluminum railing with a toothbrush! Something is up that's for sure!

As far as the characters go... It could be worse... They could update the soundtrack to feature the cast of High School Musical! ;)

I have and I believe that they shouldnt have changed it.

Sometimes even classics need to be improved. Think of books. I could walk into Barnes & Noble today and pick up any classic to find a modern cover.

There's a difference between changing the cover and changing the art work.
Adding Shakira to Mozart is a bad idea. Having Rhett leave Scarlett, not because he's fed up, but because he has a boyfriend....is a bad idea. Changing the background of the Mona Lisa to modern day Rome is a bad idea.

...Or Han shooting first!

I have to admit, I love that mug! I would love it even more though if all the characters on it were Small World dolls instead of Peter, Alice and the Rabbit.

I don't want them to change IASW either. It does not need Mickey, Goofy, Peter, Alice or whoever. It is a classic and stands on it's own IMHO. I remember taking my niece on ISAW for her first time when she was six. She loved it and we rode it three times in row. She didn't ask me who the characters were or ask where Mickey was, she just loved it the way it was.

Adding non-original characters to IASW isn't an improvement, it's a marketing ploy.

I don't know if this is OT, but I was wondering if they will be changing the boats at ITSW. I am pooh sized and the legroom on the boats is very low. By the end of the ride my knees really hurt.

I'm with you on this one, Kevin. I've been visiting Disneyland as part of my homecoming (grew up overseas in the military) ever since I was a baby and it's a small world is a family favorite. I've been happy to see the original ride at MK, but will be sad if it's also "updated" to include Disney characters (though my brother and I enjoy trying to count the number of Disney characters as we go through). Hopefully, they won't incorporate those changes worldwide, so we still have the chance to experience it.

I wasn't happy about the movie characters being added to Pirates of the Caribbean, either!

Like Nikki said, these look WDW-specific by the mention of Magic Kingdom. At first I wasn't sure the inclusion of those particular characters means anything with regards to IASW specifically - I was thinking they are representing a "Fantasyland" signature theme across the merchandise. But then I realized that they are the Mary Blair-inspired stylized characters that were included in the DL version.

Now, they could be just borrowing the merchandise design from DL and not realizing the error, as Disney has sworn that they are not making the same changes...but of course, "plans change"...

On a side note, I went back and looked at the merchandise pictures and that is one ugly snowglobe and worse, pretty cheap looking. I'm sorry, Peter Pan flying over the Small World sign just looks dumb.

^ Nice mug shot ! (Well, *someone* had to say it ! )

A) I really want that mug.

B) If I had to guess, they are going to add the classic (and not so classic) Disney characters. NO marketing opportunity goes unexploited, we know that.

I don't much care for it myself, but it's not the end of the world - small or otherwise.

I generally do not like it when people new and improve things I already like.

But I'll really hate it if they new and improve IASW.

The mug is cute. I like the Blairized characters on their own. I just do not want them messing up the ride.

Josh! ROFL

I love that mug, too. So much so that I'm going to let Shelly buy it for me the next time she goes to MK. :)

(How long will it take her to see this? lol)

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this.

I like IASW the way it is. But other things have been changed and I didn't mind them...so....:confused3 I'm not sure how I feel!

I think it will really bother me if they characters are VERY evident and they totally redo the scenes just to accomodate the characters. If they were sort of just hidden jems here and there, I may not mind it AS much.....

But I still like it the way it is :)
