We will be heading to OKW on the 18th, driving from northeast Ohio. I have heard all the glowing reports about Hilton Head and was wondering how far the DVC was from I 95. I'd really like to take a look but am not sure it's worth the precious time it'd take from our WDW stay! Any thoughts?

hh is about 40 minutes from I95. take a few extra days and stay at hh. It is a great relaxing resort.

We own at HH and love it. On our drive from NJ to WDW, DH & I debated driving off I-95 to HH, just to stay the night. Ultimately, we decided against it, staying NEAR I-95 in Florence, SC. I agree w/ "Crazyaboutdisney" if you want to discover HH, you should stay at least 2-3 days.

We hope to spend a day or two at HH either this summer or the summer after. We usually drive back and forth, so this would be the perfect time to try something different!

This time of year traffic to the Island should not be a problem so it may take you less time once you leave I95. It will still take at least 3 hours out of you trip once you look around the resort and then go over to the beach house. Of course you will have to walk out to the ocean and look around.

Much of the charm of HH is the great CM's and the resort activities, 2 things you will not get to experience.

Wave at me when you go through Akron.

Been there. Done that. Make sure to get an early start. We've only stayed at HH once (in 1998) for a couple of nights on the way down to WDW. The resort was a little rough around the edges at the time, but I'm certain that we'll go back in the future. On our last trip down, we stopped on I-95 in Hardeeville SC where we spent the night. My wife and I drove over to HH to take a walk around the DVC resort and see what changes had been made in the past couple of years. A part of me wished that we had just gone ahead and stayed there and not in Hardeeville.

Since you're going to wave at Fenceman in Akron, go ahead a wave at us when you pass through Macedonia. :)

BTW - Don't forget the DISmeet at Great Lakes Mall this Saturday morning (just around the corner from you) or the one at Summit Mall in the afternoon (a little bit closer Fenceman). It would be great if you could drop by and chat, even if only for a little bit.

As best as I can remember, it is Exit 8 off I-95...but just to let you know, it is not right off the interstate, you still have to drive a few more miles to get to the resort....it is a nice drive with some gorgeous scenery....hope you are a golfer with all the courses there or like tennis....I like HH for the plain and simple fact that it is nice and quiet there...

Have fun...

I just booked my first stay at HH for 5/26 - 6/1/02 and I'm very excited about going there. We are actually arriving on 5/25 but opted not to spend the 67 points for Saturday night so I booked the Residence Inn for that one night. I've stayed at Kiawah Island, SC many times before and I loved it there but this should be just as great....and Disney, too! Then once we leave HH we are driving down to WDW for another week! Wahoooo!!!! Love DVC!!!!:D

Three hours is a pretty big bite out of that Ohio to Florida drive, especially on the way down. Takes us about 18 hours from Columbus. Maybe it is one of those stops on the way back as you take your time going back home and want to break up the drive into two overnight stops or so, giving yourself some time to stay overnight and eat in one of the restaraunts next to the island. Otherwise, we shoot for about Lake Norman on the way home breaking the drive up into two days. It is in kind of an odd stopping place for us Ohioans being about 6 hours from Disney. On the way down, we usually leave in the evening after work and like to get on the other side of those West Virginia mountains before making our first stop. It's tempting as you drive past Hilton Head, but we haven't added the extra time. Of course, we have seen the resort before, it was where we did our tour when on a Hilton Head vacation. There is a nice Disney shop in the outlet mall before you take the bridge over to the island just incase you have trouble finding any Disney stores near Orlando.
;-D
We sure prefer that I95 drive over the I75 one, much better road.

According to my mapping software, it's 27.4 miles from I-95 to the Disney resort, and will take 39 minutes driving the posted speed limits. (Stop lights will slow you somewhat)

We've stayed there several times. It's a great resort and I highly recommend you throw in a couple of nights there either on the way down or the way back.

P.S. it's also 339.3 miles from Disney's HH resort to Disney OKW resort, and should take 6 hours, 5 minutes at posted speed limits, excluding any stops.

Hope this helps

CaptainMidnight - It's interesting that you stop in Lake Norman on the drive home. Our good friends have a home just a few miles away from the Lake Norman exit. We have stopped and spent the night there on nearly all of our trips home from OKW.
