Hi,
Just an update on interstate 81 in PA near exit 173. They are doing work on a bridge there. Traffic is down to one lane and quite backed up. If you will be driving home this way up to at least a week from now, you should find an alternate route. I just found out today or I would have posted earlier. They might start on the other side (south) the week after, I'm not sure.

UGH! DH will be driving home on Saturday, the 14th. Hopefully the NB lane is done! Thanks for the heads-up!

Was this somewhere in the vicinity of Wilkes-Barre?

There doesn't seem to be an exit 173 on I-81 in PA on any of the resources I checked.

It is just North of Wilkes-Barre. For the last couple of days it has been North of Scranton closer to the Clarks Summit and Dickson City exits.
You may want to check out PennDot's website or a local news' website such as www.wnep.com. They might offer alternate routes.

If you have any questions, let me know...this is my neck of the woods.

It is in between one of the Wilkes-Barre exits and the Scranton exit.

Hi all, I was in that area this evening to go shopping at the new Shops at Montage.{Very nice shops} The traffic jam began around 81N exit 170 B, the Bear Creek exit. That was around 4:30 pm. When I was coming home [which is southbound for me] around 8:00pm the traffic had cleared. I thinks the tie ups really get worse at the peak travel times. Hope this helps. Maybe if someone has to come that way they can google an alternate route ahead of time and have it ready just in case. There are plenty of alternate roads available in that area.
