We still haven't decided which way we're driving to WDW this year.
I think we are now contemplating the I81-I95 route.

Has anyone ventured this route at this time of year?
Where are the "mountainous" areas...or the areas to watch out for weather-wise?
The plan is to make it to Virginia/North Carolina border area the first night. Any suggestions for a good hotel in that area?

All thoughts and opinions welcome!

Only 5 more days til we're on our way!!!!

We took this route last March.

It was a snowstorm from our house (near Ottawa) until we got to Syracuse. You start hitting some mountains in Pennsylvania... and there can still be some snow. We got out of the snow by southern Pennsylvania. Despite the early weather, it was a pretty good drive.

We stayed in Richmond, VA the first night... to visit friends and then drove to the Charlotte, SC area the next day. Lots of motels/hotels along the way. If you don't book ahead, just take an exit with hotels on the south side of town and find a place a little bit off the highway. These are usually cheaper. I mention stopping on the south side of a city, as you then won't have to deal with traffic congestion the next morning.

I forgot to mention...

The worst weather are for the entire route is from the border to Syracuse. It can always turn into a snow storm due to lake effect snow.

Dave Youll find some good hotels and outlet shopping as well right on the Virginia/North Carolina border. The name escapes me right now of the town but you cant miss it.This is the route Id take regardles of the snow.Ive ran the mountains in Penn a lot of times, they know how to clear roads there and worse case scenerio it will be good going after a nights sleep.Cross over on 64 to 95 if you want to avoid traffic and see the blue ridge mountains. 66 brings you in closer to Washington

thanks folks,
I hope the forecast stays nice...I'd like to try this new route for us:drive:
