I prefer the I79/I77/I95 route we take when I pick up a friend in Kitchener on our way to WDW over the I81/I95 route we take when we go directly from Ottawa, but this summer we're considering the I75 route for the trip down. Because we're spending a few days in Daytona Beach at the end of our WDW vacation, we'll stick to the I95/I77/I79 route for the trip home.

What are the pros/cons for these two routes? I hated the I81/I95 route due to the amount of (truck) traffic and am wondering if the I75 will be the same. As I said, we have no complaints about the I79 route (we find it very relaxing and always enjoy it) but just thought a change of scenery might be nice. TIA

Lisa first thing you should do if you are going I75 is pick up Dave Hunters along the I75 book it is a tremendous book loaded with great info from food to rest areas and sights. We use it every year and wouldn't make a trip without it.

Hi Lisa,
We live in the Niagara area and usually go the 1-79/I-77 route. A few weeks ago we took the I-75 route down because it's a better winter route. I have to tell you that the amount of truck traffic on I-75 is incredible. I found it much more stressful going that way. (But I really dislike the trucks)
In May we're going with my in-laws who live in Windsor. Even though it would be better for them to go I-75, they're coming here the night before and we're going I-79. It's much prettier and much more relaxing.
If you do go I-75, I would definitely pick up Dave Hunter's book as Darren suggested. It's fantastic - much better than a CAA triptik.
:)

That's exactly what I was afraid of. I feel the same way about trucks (makes for a very stressful trip) so I think we should stick to the I79 route. Thanks. :)

For those who have travelled the I77, I95 route, are there many rest/food/gas stops along the highway? I95 has tons and I was wondering if there are as many along I77. We are looking at going I81, I77, I26 and I95. Also are there any good travel web sites about I81 and I77?

Thanks
John

Hi John,

I can't compare it to the I75 but I know travelling the I81/I95 route from Ottawa there were restaurants/gas stations at almost every exit...they aren't quite as plentiful on this route but we've never had a problem finding gas or food (I usually have our motel booked in advance but there are plenty of exits with motels along the way). I'm not aware of any sites/books but have never looked...we just use the CAA Triptik.

It's really beautiful going through the mountains and because of that, there are fewer trucks...we find the drive quite pleasant and I'm actually looking forward to doing it again in July. I keep logs of each trip so if you have any questions regarding times, etc, feel free to ask. :)
