Used to take the I-75 route for years (used to originally when driving g-parents car north at the end of winter and graduated to the same route when older and with family - non-stop, one night and and multiple nights always crossing at Detroit) but once having driven 79/77/95 south, we have never taken the I-75 route again.
Being near the Port Huron crossing, I-75 would be the more direct route but the other way should not add significant time and taking I-77 more of the way up and avoiding Cleveland altogether on I-90 (we veer off onto I-79 and I-90 to our area north of the GTA) as long as doing during decent weather IMHO it would be a nicer drive than I-75.
