Has anyone been through this detour?
[IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA]
IS CLOSED FROM THE JCT OF SR 91 TO ARTESIA BLVD /IN BUENA PARK/ (ORANGE CO) FROM 2300 HRS EACH NIGHT TO 0500 HRS EACH MORNING MONDAY THRU FRIDAY THRU 6/31/09 - DUE TO CONSTRUCTION - A DETOUR IS AVAILABLE

My family is leaving sacramento at about 10 p.m. Friday June 5th and should hit this about 4 a.m. Any information would be helpful.

Only two more sleeps until we hit the road :cool1:

Take the I-5 south to the 710 freeway south to the 91 freeway east then on to the 5 freeway.

If you take the 605 then you could face backed up traffic and could face delays where as if you take the 710 or even the 110 then you will already be on the 91 freeway which has carpool lanes. My method will be about 3 miles further than driving straight into DLR.

Just make sure you are alrert and read the detour signs. Would help if whoever is driving with you acts as you second eyes. Its dark, and those signs can be missed. And its not closed every night all night. So there may be a chance you will not need to detour.

Use google maps so you can get a street view of the route in that area.

They been working on that freeway since I cannot remember. I have done that detour already once this year going north. Traffic is light along the way thankfully.

710 freeway between 91 and the 105 is also in construction.

5 Freeway, get off any exit (Beach) head south. will hit the 91 quickly.

I would not advocate taking alternate freeways. The signs are way to confusing and if you get turned around, most of the interchanges are not in good areas. Take the 5, get off at the detour, get back on. Its easy. Just follow the signs. Chances are they might not be detouring when you go through.

I have lived within 3 miles of the I-5, 91, 105, and 605 all my life.

At Lakewood Blvd you will want to get in the right lane. Follow that south/right. When you get past Alondra Blvd there will be the 91 exchange. The ramp will veer right and west while the other left lane goes under the 91 and around to the right. If you are in one of the left four lanes or the car pool then you will avoid the 105 exit. I always transfer from the 5 to the 605 then count the lanes as make sure i am in the left 4 lanes.

I have done this route in blind fog, pouring rain, and exhausted. There is no construction on the 605 that I know of and it is a very big freeway with very clear signs. If there is construction I never noticed it.

I need to fix my car as she is leaking big time, probably a hose again. If you like I will gladly go out to the 605 and 710 and verify the information once Eleanor :woohoo: is safe to drive beyond locally. By the way I used to drive a parking lot sweeper on the 605 every day for over a year until I found a shorter way.

:scared1: OK- This is why I don't live in S. Cal! Too many freeways! You have to take 3 or 4 just to get anywhere and then half time they have road construction! Where I live we just have 101. It goes north/south. Very easy! :rotfl:

Fortunately, I think we will be going through at a non detour time.

Yeah but we have the Norton Simon Art Gallery, the zoo, Magic Mountain, DLR, Knotts, surfing, and the best views in America.

Get a Garmin, it will reroute you. :) Seriously, our last trip there was massive traffic, our Garmin routed us around the whole mess and we had NO clue where we were going. LOL

There really is no need to re route or anything. The detour is for just a block or two. You get off the freeway, follow the detour, and then hop back on.

Yes, we do have one and have used the reroute feature. We've used it to avoid accidents on 80. It is also handy for telling us what lane we need to get onto new freeways down there. Some freeways exit on the right, others get off on the left or branch off. If you don't know the area, it is just crazy!

Uhmm... the only draw for me down there is DLR, and my sister.
