Ok.. in the past few days, I've been very busy in trade rooms, etc. And numerous times, i have gotten offers of so called "beta" that actually aren't beta. Let me break it down..

BETA = an item that was released during the BETA portion of VMK.. that is, before VMK officially opened to the public last May.

RETIRED = anything that was taken out of stores, is no longer a quest prize, or is otherwise only available through trade.

THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING!!!!! I have been playing VMK since BETA, and I know what is BETA and what isn't so stop trying to scam me, or other people!

Woh! Take it easy there cowboy! I don't think it is most people's intention to scam when they offer "beta" that is not truly beta in a trade. Most of us, unlike you, have not been here since the beta phase and only go by what people tell us is beta. Fortunately for me, I am a member of a couple forums and can access fairly reliable information so I do not call things beta or retired if they are not. Also keep in mind that most VMK players are NOT members of the forums and rely solely on what they learn in the game and we all know how rumors fly and incorrect information is abundant in the game. If it really bugs you that ppl don't know what beta is why not try to get VMK to post something on the website explaining it? I think a letter writing campaign to the Yeti might be a good way to get VMK to publish that info.

I'm not saying that every "beta" offer is an innocent mistake, I'm just saying that many of them are because most players really have no idea if something is really beta or not.

.....just my $0.02 on the subject

No need to basically yell at people. :)

Some people aren't really trying to scam. Many newer people truly have no idea what is really beta and what is just retired.

To many, it's all the same. ;)

Most people just really don't know what is truly beta or retired. Your definitons don't really help either because if you did not play back in beta, you have no way of knowing what was beta. Plus, many people equate the term "beta" with rare. So be a little easier on people. Most likely, they were not trying to scam. I mean, if you just joined in the past month, things like tikis are a rare item.

and you also have to remember that many of the players are young kids, many only six or seven. They have no clue what the difference is. They just hear beta and think it means something good!

Everyone has something that annoys him/her and after spending so much time in a trade room dealing with the things that annoy him/her, could make someone slighly frustrated with it. Cap is just clarifying a well known misconception and also seems he is "venting" the frustration he got from something that annoys him. (I have seen many vents on the Dis, heh). His descriptions are well enough to be understood and the "vent" isn't really that harsh...I guess it depends on what voice you read it with, but from looking at the words...I've seen worse lol. :)

For those of us who can read these boards ;)

The players guide is a good place to start research on items.

Check this part of the players guide.

you could make a fortune off that! LOL.. but really.. my intent wasn't to yell at people.. i even debated with myself whether to post it or not because i, myself don't feel rant threads are an appropriate way to let out VMK frustraton.. sorry if i came off angry, cause i'm not angry at anyone lol
