What it would be like camping in October

We have just got back from 12 days of the magic and I so want to go back! DH has the October half term week off, the campsite we use is open until Nov 1st, ferry crossing only £42 return and our annual passes just need to be aired again! It will be a really cheap week away, I think its got to be done!

Surely if we have lots of blankets during the night we'll be OK? It would be lovely to see hallowe'en at dlrp.

It cant be that cold if the campsite is open. I would say go for it! I love camping :)

I think the booking fairies have been out a lot this week!! Sounds good to me- I'd sure as heck go for it!!

I'm going early October and camping (well satying in a wooden log cabin on a camp site ;) )

I'm sure with blankets and thermal sleeping bags it couldn't be that bad. Something to bear in mind is that Premiere Classe Hotels are only 30-40 Euros a night so might be worth thinking of instead of camping

Go for it, I couldn't do it personally as i'm not a fan of camping myself but if it meant a trip to Disney I could be persuaded:rotfl:

We were absolutely freezing in a mobile home in France at Easter this year (March). Slept in I dont know how many layers and socks, had blankets, a quilt and more blankets and had hot water bottles. At one point I nearly got out of bed to put my hat and gloves on.

And I dont usually feel the cold that much - Im a real northern lass from Cumbria originally

One year we were so cold on holiday in Cornwall that we had to do the -wrapping - up - in - socks - and hats - and - lots - of - layers thing and this was in the middle of June in a caravan. Honestly - it was quite warm in the day but the temp dropped so much at night we froze. However we stayed in late October a couple of years and found it quite bearable. I'd say go for it.

that is exactly what we done last year ,we went out with family and camped in june then came back got a cheap ferry had our passports and thought what the heck it would be so so cheap so we did it and booked again ,we went the very end of september into october the weather during the day was fantastic and we bought a cheap oil filled radiator with a thermostat so if we were at the park late and the temprature droped the heater kicked in and hey presto our tent was cozy ..... it was also handy for warming and drying p,js after the dew on the grass got them wet ,i would say go for it its such a blast and if your anything like me your freinds will think your mad camping this time of year i would definatly do it again and for the price hey who can complain at that ......i am not putting a downer on it now but my advise is in the morning strip back the beds and air them and the sleping bags beacuse of the warmth of us in them at night and the cold ground they got a bit damp between the bed and bags oh and warm p,js apart from that .........book it book it book it .

anything else you want to to know just ask

Never camped in france but camped a lot in the UK and have had several 'off season' trips, so here's my top tip

you probably know this anyway, but just in case you don't....

in cold weather one layer under you is worth two on top.
Layer up underneath as much as you can. Even in summer our 'bedroom' pod looks like this, from ground up

SIG
Inner groundsheet
Bedrolls
Picnic blanket, shiny side down
Fleece blanket
Airbed
Fleece undersheet thing
Another blanket
Sheet to hold it all together
Us - wearing hats - keep your head warm and the rest of you should be ok (excepting feet!)
Duvet

Find room in the car for a good quality THICK 13 tog plus duvet - ours is goose and duck down - this will keep you warm even on coldest nights.

Failing that get some very good sleeping bags, rated down to well below freezing. Cheapy jobbies from Tesco or similar just won't work.

I don't think it will be that cold in October to be honest. My DS's birthday's the first week in October and we always have his party outside as it's usually still quite nice, obviously different than sleeping outside, but this is Scotland and you'll be in France, so I'm sure you'll be fine. ;)
