When 2042 rolls around I wonder what Disney plans for OKW-Hilton Head-Boardwalk-Villas at Wilderness Lodge -Beach Club Villas?

Resell them? Build new ones? Tear down and build hotels?
I will have had a full 50 years at OKW and 8 years of free passes-so will be satisfied. (Only 46 years at HH)

I believe it depends upon the economy.

if the economy is good, or rather if WDW is making a nice profit. then I think they will make them part of the WDW hotels.

Otherwise they make offer us a chance to renew for an extra payment.

but I am betting on that DVC takes them back and they become part of WDW resorts.

they won't need a lot of work -remember that maintence is paid for by your fees.

Someone suggested they turn OKW into a senior citizens housing facility for aging DVC members. Since I'll be 90 yo, I'm planning on signing up for that!

Me too!

I will qualify for the Disney Old Age Home.....

(I figure if at 82, I am still heading to Disney I'll just spend any remaining money on TOP of the line accomodations....You know AKL Concerige, A suite at YC etc...)

1) There are all sorts of theories
. . . revert to WDW as resorts
. . . allow current owners to purchase more years at bargain prices
. . . sell timeshares to general public at reduced rates

2) As I understand it, there are no preferred options at this time.
3) It is just too far from now to plan.

4) The old-folks home is a neat concept, and I can see it now
. . . The Old Folks Key West Resort
. . . Saratoga Springs Eternal Resort
. . . Hilton Bald Head Resort
. . . The Boredwalk Resort

Disney has many options, and they have a long time to make decisions. In fact, it's possible that the person who will make that decision hasn't been born yet (or is currently still in diapers).

The DVC resort buildings are well maintained because of our dues, so it's really unlikely that any of them will need to be torn down. Because these resorts are so heavily themed, their appearance is timeless.

If timeshare resorts continue to be attractive to people in 2042, the simple answer would be to resell one or more of the resorts for another 50 years -- after thorough remodels to reflect the tastes and expectations of people in the middle of the 21st century.

It's unlikely that Disney would want to be in "sales mode" for four DVC resorts simultaneously, but you never know.

If I had to guess, I'd say that Disney would sell off the Hilton Head and Vero Beach resorts entirely to another company. That company would decide whether to resell them as timeshares, or whether to use the buidlings as conventional condos, rental apartments, or suite hotels. But I could be wrong, especially if DVC ever gets back into the business of developing off-site DVC resorts.

They will have to resell at OKW. DVC will need the money to install the transporter room where Olivias is now.

I will be 76 for 2042 close and 88 for the 2054 close

Assuming people still like timeshares and that Disney still wants a core group of customers and visitors who tend to visit at times beyond the crowded (and thus smooth out attendence during the non-peak times and help keep costs per unit of service delivered down), they will offer some type of renewal, extension or new contract sales. One thing for sure if they do any of the above it will be well ahead of the 2042/2054 dates

cheers

I could see a split...saving the properties like BCV,BWV,VWL for wdw hotels(since they are already shared sites), and OKW and SSR might be extensions or new sales. I agree I think VB would go, but I think HH might stay. Just my best guess. :) I am still holding out for the Contemporary DVC for my retirement home!!! :rotfl:

That would only work for bldgs 62, 63 and 64 - those with elevators.

It's on hold right now (where have you heard that one before). There is a hang up on the amenities to provide, actually one. In additional to the soap and towels they are undecided on whether to provide false teeth containers. ;)

Sign me up for the old folks home also I'll be 82.
When I was in the process of buying our DVC membership last month for WLV they kept on asking me if I wanted to buy at SSR instead so I would get the 8 extra years. I told them by 2042 they will already be leaning me into a corner and watering me like a house plant anyway so the extra years would not be needed. :rotfl:

I'll be 60 when the non-saratoga resort contracts expire. That would be awesome still going to disney at that age.

I'll be 84 and Lord willing, I'll still be enjoying Disney there and on site :) Let's hope we can buy in again !

::MickeyMo Sign me up for the Old folk's home. I wonder if we would get first dibs on a spot in the Haunted Mansion graveyard?

I disagree. I don't think they have as long as everyone things to figure this out. Let's face it, the old age home is a cool idea, but for many of us, by 2042 and MUCH earlier, the DVC memberships will be in the hands of our children and their children.

Believe it or not, Disney needs to keep DVC members and their families happy and coming back year after year. It is to their advantage to keep DVC going, and to continue selling/reselling. Build once, sell it many times. As soon as they let the price slip (notice they haven't so far), new DVC memberships will plummet. New members will start to get shaky about buying in when a price drop occurs, even to the newer properties. They financially can't let this happen.

My guess is, at first, they will allow (for a price of course) currect DVC members to extend the 2042 membership to 2054 and add family members to the contract. Once they pull that off, they can sell/resell the older resorts at the then going premium price until 2054 (or whatever it is).

By putting dates on the membership, they have given us (and our families) a way out of the timeshare. They don't want us out! They want to continue to sell/resell, and collect dues to refurbish to keep the $$s coming in. The Contemporary and Poly are over 30 years old, what are they doing to them now? Refurbishing. For DVC, we get to pay for the refurbishing with our dues.

Once the buy in price of DVC starts to drop, they are in a loosing battle. I don't think they will put themselves in this position.
