We came last year- spring break and my kids ages 9 and 11 loved it-we stayed at the Hard Rock- I was at a fundraiser last night and won a silent auction for 2 nights at Portofino. Where is the best place to find a room for only 1 or 2 nights. The hotel usually seems to have the highest rates- I have a fan club card1! Probably won't go until next year though!!

First, congradulations 
that's a great prize. All I ever win is t-shirts and drink bottles. OK now let me get this straight, are you saying you want to stay extra nights in addition to the nights you won at the Portofinno and you don't want to spend them there? Did you check out the rates at RPR, it's a really nice resort with the most reasonable rates in Universal. But if you have the fan club card I believe you need a 4 night stay to get your 20% off the hotel, so if they will count the 2 nights you won with 2 additional nights that you want to stay then that would probally be the better deal. I would check to see if all the nights have to be in the same Lowes hotel, maybe they will let you break it up! Good Luck and Enjoy!!!!

If you dont plan to go till next year I wouldnt do anything yet. When the time comes check out the AAA, APH and FAN (although there havent been any FAN) rates through www.loewshotels.com or you could call also.
If you plan to go at a peak time you could call now so it doesnt sell out but if not I would wait so rates have a chance to drop.
Also...when calling let them know of the 2 free nights and ask if there are any special rates to extend your trip.
As far as Portofino hacing the highest rates, usually thats true although I have seen it come in cheaper than the other 2 once in a while. When the other 2 are sold out sometimes Portofino is not. Ask for a gardenview in the west wing. Its a great location! Good Luck
