I won a trip for Eight!!!!!

OMG!!!!! I have a won a trip to WDW for Eight. The Boscov's, WPVI channel 6 parade in Philadelphia. It will be on tv Thanksgiving morning. I have never won anything in my life. Has anyone ever won a trip before? I just had to share with everyone. Thinking of going in May, I have one year to take the trip. Trip includes: Roung trip air, hotel on disney property, all passes, a dinner show, blizzard beach, etc. and $400.oo disney dollars. and many more extra's. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

I really really really hope you're in a low tax bracket and have a large immediate family. The "value" of the trip for tax purposes will be computed at rack rate/full price for everything. Let's say they have valued the prize at $15,000. At the 33% tax bracket, you would be paying $5000 in taxes for your trip (or is there a special tax bracket for large prizes? I don't know). If you have a very small immediate family, that $5000 could be more than it costs to take your immediate family on the same trip. Remember that you will have to pay tax on the "free" trip that you give to your friends, family, etc.

I don't want to be a big pessimist, but please go into the situation with your eyes open. One of our young employees won a new Jaguar from a department store drawing. Once the initial excitement wore off, she and her husband realized that they could not afford to both keep the car and pay the taxes. They had to take delivery of the car and then sell it immediately.
