I could finally get a new job. Was laid off in September.
I am dying to continue my life of saving for Disney and our new home.
I miss working with people in an office rather than waiting now for someone to call me with a computer problem ( Im doing computer repair consulting for friends and word of mouth).

They say that the economy is getting better. Not here in Mass.
I have a handicap for the whole job hunting thing too.
Im not getting one cause i am too shy a guy and dont kiss up enough in interviews. All of these interviews i goto and dont get a call back I say to myself that they are missing out on a sweet guy who is a very very hard worker unlike people at my last job
who just didnt wanna werk half of the time. It kills me to see these people in other places now acting the same while someone who really cares and wants to try is sidelined because he is too shy and cant win over the interviewer.

sorry....I just want to go back to disney and go back to working life.

Are there any re-employment networking groups in your area? They are a great way to get leads on jobs, tips on resumes & interviews....and overall support until things turn around....

Hang in there - keep doing the best that you can, and hopefully things will turn around soon....

You've halfway through the process, Mr.Shy Guy... you REALIZE what the problem is!

No one expects you to kiss up, concentrate on the person who is interviewing you, remain positive and show them the person you KNOW you are.

Someone, and the right person, will see that. I saw it in one little post.

It is not easy when shyness is a problem. I know that for it was something I dealt with for quite some time. My advice to you is to keep doing what you just did. Keep going on interviews, make yourself talk with folks, it does get easier as time goes to become more confident. I wish for you that others will soon find what it is that you know and realize--you are a great guy!

My DH was laid off (after 16 years w/Boeing) the end of September. He's sent out over 300 resumes and has yet to land one interview. He's also an IT guy - a generalist...a little support, a little Dbase programming/management, network/systems admin and process improvement engineering. (2 BS degrees and 60 credits post-bacheloriate).

It's tough here in Washington state too.

He's also not so great at finding new networking opportunities...the old network hasn't produced any leads yet.

We are attending our democratic caucus tomorrow for the first time. (consider ourselves independent voters).

I know it's quite tough to try again and again without results, but it's just something you have to keep plugging away at. Maybe you can practice speaking like my dad used to when I was little. He was a bit nervous when he had to give a speech so, he would spend hours in the basement in front of a mirror practicing his speech, and sometimes he would just talk about nothing, getting himself used to speaking out loud. Also, right before an interview or a couple of days before the interview start giving yourself a pep talk, make sure you tell yourself tons of positive things about how you are qualified for this job, how you could do it better than another person, ect, it could help give you the confidence that you need. I know it's hard, but believe in yourself and others will believe in you! When in doubt ask the higher being that you believe in for guidence and help, patience, and leadership (or you could just ask your inner self, if you don't believe in a higher being). I know that I ask everyday for patience and love to help guide me as a parent, and truely I have noticed the difference in my tolerence/frustration level the next day if I have forgotten to ask. Give yourself a little confidence boost, put a smile on your face and a bounce in your step, you CAN DO IT! We here at WISH are cheering you on in more ways than one (healthy well being and a new job! yeah)! Keep us up to date on the job search!
