I wish Hollywood would make a big name, big budget musical!

Think of all of the talented actors and actresses in movies today who have proven musical talent: John Travolta, Ewan MacGregor, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Madonna, Stockard Channing... (The list goes on - you could name a few more, I'm sure.)

With the success of (IMHO: the very odd but highly entertaining) "Moulin Rouge," I think the public is ready for a good old fashioned movie musical! If the big wigs in Hollywood could snag some of these major stars - it could only be a hit.

What do you think?
What musical would be a good project?
Who could star in it?
What talented folks have I left off of the list?

At the movie theater on Saturday we saw the posters for the new CHICAGO musical/movie that is starring Richard Gere, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Renee Zellweger. Not sure if any of them have any singing talent or not, though.

Richard Gere? Umm - oKAY...

I can't wait for this movie!! I saw the trailer for it on-line the other day. It looks great! Thankfully, I don't think Gere has any singing parts!! But CZJ and RZ sounded fantastic. I am assuming that it's their real voice....

I laughed right out loud when I saw this and thought "Gee, I dunno...what about American Gigolo?" ;)

A remake of "The Music Man" is coming to television in November. It's starring Matthew Broderick.

No more movie musical fans?

i do have to say that i thoroughly enjoyed moulin rouge and ewan mcgregor...wow! he has one powerful voice!!!!

i, too, would love to see a resurrection of the movie musicals. there are all sorts of talented hollywood actors out there that could step up to the plate!

:D

I love musicals! My DD and I love Singin' in the Rain! We checked the DVD out of our library a couple weeks ago.

I can't wait to see The Music Man with Matthew Broderick.

My daughter says it will not be the same! She loves the original.
We also have watched Flower Drum Song.
"A Hundred Million Miracles", is one of her fave. songs.

Not many people these days like musicals, I am glad my daughter has a wide array of interests!.

There is a few remakes I would like to see:

A Chorus Line with ALL stars... how fun would that be and the first one was so horrible.

Miami is premiering "Urban Cowboy" here soon...That should be interesting.

I guess they will probably do a movie of Aida from the Broadway version.

They could do a live version movie of Beauty and the Beast...wouldn't that be fun?

But, the one I am waiting for is Julia Roberts in the remake of "Wait until Dark". Everytime I watch the original with Audrey Hepburn on AMC I think of that. The cast of the bad guys could be really well done. I will have to think on those though.
