I wish everyone would just accept it

This is so sad. I am glad I don't live in that community.

It made me think of something that happened last Saturday. My family was sitting in a new burger joint by a window watching people walk by. Two girls walked by holding hands.
DD age 8 says: "I wonder why they are doing that?"
DD age 10 says "Because they like each other."
DD age 8 says: "Yep, I know, but why are they wearing shorts when it is so cold outside?"

I wonder why people can't just live and let live...and wear pants when it is cold outside?

You know? That's a great idea. I wished we all lived near those girls/that school.

WE could throw a party for THEM. ::yes:: Wouldn't that be a sweet turn of events?

'Mama? You have great kids! ::yes::

Right!!!:thumbsup2

( Although I did enjoy driving with my windows down yesterday and massive amounts of snow still on the ground....... :) )

OR, if I had enough money and the right connections, I would fly them to a city that was having a prom that they WOULD be accepted at.

I dont know exactly when the pg was established but it already has over 71,000 fans!

Oh wow, Jenn that is great news! I don't have a facebook account. :(

That made my day. Really, it's great that some kids are brought up in welcoming families. I applaud your parenting skills 2GirlsMama :goodvibes

You don't have a FB account!

OMG!

:scared1:

The thought of that scares me. Heck, even my mom and dad are on FB now! It's how I keep in contact with everybody!

LOL. Nope. No facebook, no myspace, none of that stuff.

I'm not sure I'd be able to keep up with it, plus right now it really holds no interest for me.

I saw on the local news that a businessman from New Orleans said he would bus the kids down here, give them a prom and bus them back home if they wanted to do that. Cool!:thumbsup2

I think its shameful! I have been to a school dance and seen heterosexual couples do MANY things that made me unconfortable. At the HS DH teaches at, they have a pre-prom meeting and stress that the girls wear panties.:scared1: Thats cause so many of them were caught doing much more than actual dancing at the prom!

OMG. I'm sorry but that is disgusting. I am so not judging teens, I mean that sincerely, but that is beyond the boundaries.

Gettin' old I guess. :confused3

That is unbelievable. Get over it- what year is it again? As for the black and white prom- what the &^%??? If this was at a public school in Ontario, people would FREAK out and the school board would be sued. Seriously. This came up about 12 years ago when I was teaching High School. Even then people were upset that it was even called into question. Now at the same time the Catholics (I being one and teaching at a Catholic school) schools won't allow it. But kids get around it- they just go as friends. But at the public schools there is never a problem- at least not from what I have heard. They are too afraid of being sued! :) In Ontario they are piloting an all black high school b/c they are trying to raise students self esteems and test scores. The teachers are black, guest speakers etc., but what is crazy is that research says that it doesn't matter the race- it is whether or not the teacher is any good. All kids black or white need good teachers. As for the prom thing- it scares me that people are this prejudiced. :sad2:

Neither do I.

::yes::

I was a geek with accounts all over the place in the early days before these systems were so user-friendly and photo-filled. But, as things evolved, I became more private and less trusting of security. So, today, I'm only in a few places.

I don't know about this. The one instance (2002) that I know of where a boy pushed back against a Catholic School Board's decision that he couldn't bring his boyfriend to the prom ended with an injunction allowing him to attend without a finding that stated whether or not Catholic schools could make these discriminatory judgments in the future.

I don't think that "going as friends" really solves the problem. I think that while we are "ahead" in Ontario, we still have a long way to go. Separate proms (for any group) would be bizarre, but, most proms are student run (not school run) these days and there are so many complicated reasons for that which I wish we could overcome.
