offer a land/sea package that included 3-day parks/7-day cruise.

We've no interest in doing what is offered now, because we love the 7-day itineraries! (3 or 4 days just isn't long enough.)

However, I envy those who finish the land package and still have the cruise to look forward to.

I noticed an earlier thread that wanted to know if any sort of discount was offered for a short stay at WDW before the cruise.

I wonder (no pun intended, LOL!) if Disney has had any plans for this, and if there is a demand for it?

We did our own 4-day park/7 day western (see signature) and it would have been nice to have it packaged up. There is no reason that I see for them not to do it. Just to have the luggage transfer and to get your keys would be a great service.

Amen to that!
Except well, I guess since land/sea pkgs determine what resort by what stateroom- I wouldn't like that on THIS trip- but definitely would in the future! (This trip we are taking 2 cat 9's since we have 5 in our family.. and we are planning on adding our own 2-3 nights at GF before the cruise- cat 9's would not be in GF! LOL)

But I often wonder why they don't make pkgs with the 7 day cruise- I guess they think it would be too long?

Even if they did offer the package, it would probably be cheaper booking it yourself.

We created our own for our December 4th cruise. After we get back, we are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge for four nights.

We booked a 7-night Dec 2003 cruise in late 2002 and at that time there was no option to join a land package with a cruise package.

We booked 4 nights package at Port Orleans for the 4 nights prior to our cruise during the Summer of 2003.

Our TA was able to combine the two so we did a single check in at the resort. We used the same cards at WDW as we did on the boat, we had the direct luggage transfer (they came to our room Sat morning to get our luggage and it went straight to the boat). We had all our paper work processed at the cruise desk at the resort ahead of time etc. A few years back I had done a 3/4 land/sea package and this worked just the same as that.

I do believe that we even got a slight discount on the resort part of the package.

It wasn't pre-packaged in the sense that we could have booked for any number of nights at WDW as we wanted and we could choose any resort we wanted as opposed to the 3/4 and 4/3 packages where your resort is tied to your cabin category.

I know when we originally booked the cruise in 02 that this wasn't possible, but by mid-2003 our TA was able to do this.

The land/sea package really isn't a discount. You can book all the components separately, depending on the current sales at WDW, you can frequently do better price wise than with the package. IF you consider only those components of the package that you will actually use, you can do MUCH better on price. Also, by booking separately, you can choose your resort without having it tied to cabin level.

We almost always do a few days at the parks before or after our 7 day cruise...but by booking it separately, we can save significant money.
