Fill in the BLANK. It doesn't matter, every airline has suffered a black eye at one point. Jet Blue, which has had a stellar reputation until this weekend, really took a big public relations hit with cancelled flights and entrapped passengers. Delta, trying to emerge from bankruptsy has had to consolidate flights, limit amenities and dump Song which many people liked including myself. Southwest doesn't offer reserved seating, USAir overbooks, etc. So many times I hear people saying or a read a post on the transportation board in which someone swears to never fly a specific airline again because of a bad experience. I prefer Delta and am willing to risk my $$$ flying with an airline in bankruptsy because the more airlines that exist, the better it all is for the flying public. That doesn't mean that I won't fly with another airline. If SWA offers me a substantial savings, I am there. I am just not sure it makes sense for consumers to boycott an airline when they hit a rough patch; whether it be Jet Blue today or SWA tomorrow. Any thoughts?

I agree that a one time rough patch won't keep me from flying with an airline, that is if I ever fly again. ;) However, the continuous bad service and overbooking and other problems I've experienced with American will definitely keep me away from them. I've gotten fed up with this sorry excuse for an airline but that's because of many different things.

we usually only fly jetblue
we were sup to fly home from WDW on wed the 14th
we knew it was gonna be crazy nuts to got the last flight back to boston tuesday night
and we were fine
i would rather be safe than sorry and i am glad we fly home when we did

the only other carrier i have flown is delta but they are $$$$

Hmmm sory can't offer any advice but is there any other alternative or it just between those two?

Claire ;)

Monarch. Worn, uncomfortable seats, impatient and rude staff, ridiculous extra charges for food in flight, poor handling of a fragile instrument.

I'm sticking to BA from now on.

ATA, which pretty much did to us two spring breaks ago what Jet Blue did to passengers last week --- except there wasn't even a snowstorm.

They filed bankruptcy and just cancelled a whole bunch of flights, without bothering to rebook passengers, refund passengers, or even notify passengers.

i'll just say, unless they offerred a very compelling reason such as a fare that is significantly lower than other airlines, nope I would not.

I don't have any airlines that I won't fly, but I do try to avoid having to change planes in Atlanta. :)

So I guess that rules out Delta... I once flew Delta from Los Angeles to Frisco, we stopped in Atlanta:confused3

I guess for me the only one is the obvious "SOUTHWEST", last Aug we got a $99 Orlando to LAX. We still decided NEVER AGAIN.

Not necessarily. I just looked for flights from Syracuse to Norfolk. I could go Delta and change planes at JFK. But, I said we avoid Atlanta. Never say never. Besides, my sister and her family live there. Changing planes there can be a hassle. We flew through there on the way home from Vegas last year. We landed in a thunderstorm, and as usual, the airport was a zoo.

I can't say "never" but if I have alternatives, I'll chose another over Northwest to Europe. I've flown with them twice to Europe and both times, the service was bad. One leg of one of the flights was with KLM and I must say, the experience was like night and day. KLM was great compared to NW.

I used to fly AirTran a lot, but I had an issue with the website last night and when I called for help the customer service rep. was extremely disrespectful. I said I will never fly them again. Granted, I was just a little worked up from what happened and if they were the cheapest option I would probably choose them. Unless something unforgivable happened to me on an airline, it's really about what the cheapest option is for me when it comes to flying.

Delta has another hub in Cincinnati which is a nice airport. I have connected in CNN to FLL, MCO, MIA and HNL.

If the price is right, I won't let one customer service rep sour an entire corporation for me. If that was the case, I would never fly Delta since there is such a communication issue with their overseas outsourcing. The Indian reps speak perfect English. They just don't understand perfect English. ;) I have found that asking for the Spanish speaking desk, in Spanish is the best way to get a rep who is fluent in English.

I just started a thread about airports and connections and mentioned Cinci. :) I haven't flown into there in a while, but I remember it being a really nice airport.

Agreed - I recently connected through Cincinnati for the first time, and I thought it was very nice, and extrememly relaxing compared to Atlanta.

You know it's weird to read stuff about the Cincinnati airport because even though I live in Cincinnati I never fly out of it. We always fly out of Dayton or Columbus because they are significantly cheaper and not that much farther away for us.

I used to fly United all the time out of O'Hare and was quite pleased. Until the late 90s when they seemed to go right down the tubes - mechanicals, dirty plans, very late flights and employees who seemed to have no customer service skills.

So if I have a choice, I will not fly United, but if that is the only airline going to my destination, then I fly them.

Price is not my only factor in chosing an airline:
1) safety
2) do they have a lot of flights? I do not want to get stuck on a carrier that has one flight a day to my destination. Miss it and I will be stuck
3) customer service - I want friendly skies
4) frequent flyer program

Continental.

2 years ago, we flew from Newark to Tucson roundtrip. On the trip back, I had a woman next to me with memory problems. She was elderly, had a tag noting her disability on a necklace that the airline put on her. She was a little overweight and getting up and down for her was a hassle. I had to go to the restroom and she kindly got up. I think she even went to the restroom at the same time. We returned to our seats. The foodcart had started to come up the aisle and was right in front of where we had to return to our seats. The flight attendant saw us coming, took her cart and proceeded to move up the aisle towards our seat.

I have flown a lot over the years (used to be a road warrior). In most cases, the attendant will back up the cart to leave room to return to your seat. Not in this case. Not only did she not back up the cart, she proceeded to block the aisle to our seats than she proceeded to push the cart into me to try to get me out of the way. I was shocked to say the least, more so in that I was trying to help the disabled woman (and the airline knew that she was disabled - they'd put the tag on her.)

A couple of other things happened on the flight - I don't remember anymore. Basically 2 of the flight attendants were the rudest flight attendants I have ever flown with. I can be a bit outspoken and believe that I finally got so frustrated that I said (not in a screaming confrontational voice) that I was really disappointed by how rude the flight attendant was being. The next thing I know I see that flight attendant go talk to another attendant. They were looking at my seat number and obviously writing me up as a trouble passenger on a pad.

I decided to keep my mouth shut at that point. I was tempted to write a complaint note after and probably should have (my mother tells me I probably could have sued the airline for pushing the cart into me on purpose). But, I have done the one thing in my power - I no longer fly Continental under ANY circumstance.

After two bad trips with Delta, I will be avoiding them in the future.

The three I avoid like the plague, busness or vacation, are:

1. US Air
2.Continental
3. Delta

My favorite to fly for vacation is Southwest, great service, leave on time and arrive early.

The ones I prefer to fly for business are:

1. Northwest
2. American
3. United
4. Alaska
