complain about Disney food prices again.

We just ate dinner at the Braves Chop House at Turner Field Saturday night and had the following:

DS-16 - Bacon Cheeseburger with Fries and Tea
DS-15 - Bacon Cheesburger with Fries and Tea
DH - Foot Long Chili Dog with Fries and Tea
Me - Chicken Strips with Fries and Soda

Total $59.90 plus tax and tip!!!!!!

The food was good, but geez!!!!!

it's funny... when we were at wdw with a lot of friends and family for our wedding in 2001, dh and i (along with our friends from this area) were not surprised at food prices. they were pretty comparable to what you find around here. our family and friends from more rural areas, however, were completely shocked. i guess it is just what you are used to.

Although I am not an American I find the prices to be very good. Much cheaper than back home.

I've also found Disney prices to be reasonable. Maybe a dollar or two an entree more (sit down) than what I'd pay at a comparable Twin Cities restaurant.

We also never had a problem with the prices. They always seem to compete with prices that we are use to paying.

I agree. You go to a fast food burger joint, get a burger w/everything, fries & a soda, boom! $10-$15 for one person, depending on where you go.
Unless you always order the .99 & under menu.......
And don't get me started on the cost @ a sit-down restaurant. $5.00 for grilled cheese? $20.00 for a hamburger?

LOL..I've been to the 755 Club at Turner Field...had their hotdogs..and they are HIGH!!
I just booked a Hollywood & Vine dinner...and although when I think 19.99 sounds high...our total will only be 50.00 - We spend 50-60 easy each week goin to Joes Crab Shack or the Olive Garden...and look where we are gonna be!!
I have no complaints :) I'm just excited!!!

I agree with the Olive Garden comment. That's "our place" here and the bill can get up there by they time you figure in drinks, desserts, etc. I thought the food prices at WDW were very reasonable. I went to a new place here called Mondo's and it was 12 something (not including the tip) for a burger and coffee for dinner. We liked Hollywood and Vine for our kids for dinner.

I also think that with the numbers of people those places feed in a day, they do a good job.

On place I keep reading that doesn't have good food is the ABC Com. at MGM. My DS and DD had breakfast there twice and it was good. Maybe it's the lunch and dinners that aren't very good.

I think the prices at WDW are high, but I'm prepared for it. Whenever I balk at the $30 entrees, I tell myself I have the option to get a hot dog, or fill up on popcorn and candy. The thing that still blows me away is seeing people at a place like Columbia Harbour House (= Long John Silvers) that are spending $40+ to feed their family:eek:

I think the real problem is that most people at disney are stuck paying for three meals a day while on vacation where as at home you can be more selective about eating out . We only go out to eat once a week - and yes, the bill might be $50.00 for that one night, but at disney when the food bill is easily $150.00 - $200.00 a day - that really takes a bite out of vacation funds.

It's just a shame that average folks on average wages can't enjoy a Disney vacation even if they are willing to eat hot dogs and hamburgers. (Or a trip to their local zoo for that matter, or a ball game at Turner field).:(

We live on a resort island....for lunch today DH and I had 2 hamburgers and 2 strawberry shakes..cost 16.80 Disney prices are actually lower than here :)

I agree! I live in the DC area and everything is expensive here. I'd rather eat expensive fast food in Disney than anywhere else!

At Disney those Strawberry Shakes would have cost about $5.25 each (that's what a shake was at the BeachClub in Oct. 2002) - so if you got two burgers in addition to the shakes, I'd say $16.80 was a great price.

Last week, my kids went to Six Flags. DS said the turkey legs were around $6 each and barely edible. A large soft drink is over $3. At WDW, we paid less and enjoyed everything we got. Even if it did cost more, it would be worth it just for the variety offered. At SF and other parks, you're pretty much stuck with burgers, pizza, hot dogs, and chicken strips. JMHO...

I don't know...we just got back yesterday. Food prices went up quite a bit since we were there in February.

We were shocked at how much it cost for two fast-food type burgers, a hotdog, and three sodas--$40.00. I guess it wouldn't be so bad, but the quality was lacking as well. For the first time ever, I honestly can not rave about any of our meals. There isn't one that stands out. Overall, the food was pretty dismal.

Food-wise, it looks like Disney has finally priced us out of their market.

I have found that at Disney the sit down restaurants (most of them) are a much better value.

For a few dollars more, the three of you could have gone to a sit down restaurant for lunch where the food quality is quite good.

Check out the menus at http://www.wdwig.com/menu/menus.htm

for examples.

clkelley... if the prices have went up as the other poster said do you think it would be worth it to buy meal vouchers  There will be me, DD33,DSIL31,DGD7,DGS6,DGS3 I joined connections but can't decide if I should order the vouchers or not. We will be there for several days Any advise from anyone would be greatly appreicated :D

Actually, I was referring to sit-down restaurants as well as the counter service. We're very familiar with WDW restaurants--we've been to almost all of them. We've been going to WDW two to four times each year since 1989.

We've never had a complaint about the food. Granted, there may have been a restaurant or meal we didn't care for in the past. That's to be expected. However, on this trip we found the overall food quality to be poor and the prices expensive. It was certainly not to the standards we've come to expect from WDW.

It's all a matter of perspective, isn't it. I had to spend way more time than I wanted in Houston Int. a few weeks ago, and food prices were WAY more than WDW. Ditto the Six Flags parks. Just makes me feel that Disney is just getting fair market value. Actually, I'm still in sticker shock from eating b'fast at the Ritz-Carlton, Phoenix. Sure, it's the Ritz, but bacon and eggs over easy are, well, eggs and bacon.

And, Carol, we used to live in Metro Atlanta, and we just HAD to eat at the Chop House once. Great view of the field, atmosphere plus, but next game we brought our cooler like sane people should.

WDW food prices are considerably higher than what I'm use to paying at home (my DH and I eat a nice meal for $15-20 at a sit-down place). So, I guess I should just be glad that I can eat out here so cheaply compared to other places in the country and save all that extra cash for when I'm eating at WDW! I guess if the prices were really out of line I wouldn't have to lose my mind trying to get PS's because the restaurants wouldn't be so crowded...come to think of it, I may be in favor of higher prices! ;)
