I was threatened by a customer yesterday!

I feel the same way. It has been noted in my reviews for 4 years how accomodating I can be, always doing the right thing for the customer etc, but if you are disrespectful to me in any way, I'll give it right back to you. I do not get paid enough to take abuse from anyone! I'll probably be written up too; my customer yesterday already emailed the manager, but whatever. They can write me up all they want; I'm still not going to take crap from a rude customer.

I worked customer service at a dept. store, woman called up and cussed us out (I asked her please not to swear) because her daughter's soc. sec. number was used on a credit card in her name, apparently it was our fault. Anyways, she got the info she needed and proceeded to scream in my ear not to tell her how to talk to her. She called back and tried to complain to the store mgr. He spoke with me later, he backed me up 100% and told the woman that we weren't paid enough to take that kind of abuse. I don't miss working there and dealing with those people, not sure if it was different on the floor.

Sorry that happened to you, the same thing happened to my sister. She was working in a food store in North carolina and actually had to quit her job. They gave her night hours and the store is in a bad section of town. i told her it wasnt worth chancing to deal with customers who were drunk or on drugs. Thats when they get really nasty.

Oh, I could write books on the "fun" dealings I've had with customers over the years! My favorite stories come from working at a coffee cafe downtown. We got all the business people as well as all the homeless folks, which made for an interesting mix. MOST of the transient people we got were fine and we had no issues with them. But some had mental or physiological issues and could be violent or harassing. We also had strict rules not to serve anyone if we could smell alcohol.

Anyway, the business people would try to bring the homeless people to buy them coffee. Sounds great, right? Except they they'd come back to either harass us or to loiter outside to see who else will buy them something. When it the business people tried to bring in those who were banned from the cafe (for either threatening or actually trying to hurt someone) I would refuse to serve them and tell them why. It still astounds me how many people tried to buy them things anyway. If I had just told that I was sorry I would not serve the homeless person you bought in because they had thrown hot coffee on one of our employees sending her to the hospital, would you not accept it and move on?! Nope, I was accused of being every name in the book on more than one occasion. It was great.

I'm a nurse in a hospital in a fairly large city. If I had a nickel for every time I have been threatened, I wouldn't have to work anymore.
