I've seen skate/bmx videos from schools in so-cal like this. El Toro is the most notable that I can think of but I'm sure there are others.

Seems like there are just open sidewalks instead of hallways so it really wouldn't be any different.

As a Midwestern person, when I see movies or shows of CA schools and the kids are walking outside, I am very intrigued and sorta jealous. It looks cool.

Growing up in Ripon, CA, we didn’t have hallways either. All doors to the outside.

None of the schools I attended in San Diego had hallways. Exterior doors only.

I was telling Kitty about when I was a Freshman, their was this beautiful girl who was a Junior, I thought she was the hottest girl ever, and my first day at high school, I got lost and I seen her the rest f the year, i always went out of my way to go down that hallway at that time just to get a glimpse of her, then oone day, I couldnt find her and was looking all over then BAM, I ran right into her,she felt so warm and inviting, I looked at her and she said "Im Sorry", and this was my big chance i said,"awwwhagswwha" or some caveman speak, but I still remember that glorious day in the hallway

Nothing like hearing the bell and being the first one out the door to the playground, good times.

Our daughter is an assistant art teacher here in the mid-south, and her school is a maze of hallways. When it’s dark, its kinda scary

My Jr High in rainy Eugene, Oregon had outdoor covered breezeways. We didn't get rained on, but breezeway was a very appropriate term. Hard to look your best with a runny nose from the weather. Forget mini-skirts - we wore pants!

My middle school in AZ was all door to outside. Eight buildings and a main drag that was covered, but every room opened from the outside.
High school (as you have seen in the movies ... Bill & Ted, Just One of the Guys, etc.) still had a lot of outdoors, but you did go through hallways in buildings to get to your classroom. Lockers were outside in a covered area. (I hated those lockers, btw)

The super odd thing to me? Neither one of those schools is recognizable. I mean, COMPLETELY UNRECOGNIZABLE! To the point it is a completely different school. On the same land, but the buildings are 100 % different. That is mind-blowing to me.

Especially when I could go back to Michigan and see not only my elementary and middle school but my parents high schools and they are all exactly the same.

right, and hall ways, being inside builds a untily for your school, its nice, cause after 12th grade that will never happen again

they are going to tear down my grade school and they invited anyone who ever attended to go inside for a last look, I didnt go but my sister did, she said "Jay this real prety lady come up to me and said "are you jasons sister" she told her yes and moved on, I go "Paula who is she , what did she want?" she said "I didnt think to ask"

No hallways sounds pretty good right now during this pandemic, better than the sea of humanity I have to wade through to get from point A to point B. Kind of impractical for PA though

Yeah, it all happened in the hallways when I was in school. That or the bathrooms. Anyone else spend their time between classes taking turns waving a folder in front of the smoke detector in the bathroom while everyone else smoked?

here’s the saddest drawing of what my middle school in AZ was like. You walked outside to get to each class. There were 8 buildings (9 including office and nurse)

Most buildings housed at least 3 classrooms. It’s been 33+ years so I can’t remember how many classrooms per building. But this is rough estimate saying most had 3 and the little lines are the doors. Grassy areas were in between each building and every building had a sidewalk to enter the doors. Too bad I can’t google my school. It’s not even the same name anymore. I can’t even ....

The only school I went to that had hallways was in 8th grade. Both elementary schools, 7th grade and highschool were doors to the outside.

Maybe it is a California thing.
