I couldn't believe it. I was sitting there next to DD (17) and who did they pick? Me, the 53 year old lady. Cute DD, who loves to act, did not get picked.

I felt really stupid, but did my best to entertain. It was really fun. At the end, they gave me a World Showcase Players pin. As if that wasn't enough, I got to hug this very nice looking young man (Romeo) multiple times during the show. LOL!

WSP in Italy are doing Romeo & Juliet? Wow... don't they usually do comedies? I've never heard of them doing a tragedy... What's it like?

You'd have thought it was a comedy they way they did it! They divided the crowd into Capulets and Montegues. Each time they'd say either name, the opposite family side would jeer. Romeo and I got to make eyes at each other, dance and hug. They laid a cloth on the ground with outlines of bodies on it. We had to lie on it while the families reconcilled. Then we got to get up and hug again. Very funny.

Sounds great! Would loved to have seen you in it!

Did anyone take pics of you? That would of been awsome. Way to go. :rose: :rose: :rose: ::yes::

World Showcase Players do perform comedies -- twisted renditions of famous stories. This particular performance is not "Romeo & Juliet" as we know it, it is the lesser known tale of "Romeo & Edna". :)

What follows is probably more information about World Showcase Players recent history than most people would care to know, but are afraid to ask anyway.

The World Showcase Players currently perform street theater sets with audience participation in 2 Epcot areas -- the UK pavillion and the Italy pavillion. They tend to change their shows with the seasons. When I was there earlier this month, they were performing only "Romeo and Edna" in Italy and "King Arthur & the Holy Grail" in the UK. I *think* "Romeo and Edna" is only performed during the summer, but I could be wrong on that. In the spring they were performing "Kiss Me, Shrew" in Italy and were alternating "My Unfair Lady" with the "King Arthur" performances in the UK.
During Epcot's "Holidays Around the World" season, they alternate "A Christmas Carol" with the "King Arthur" performances.

Prior to their Italy appearances, they were performing "Cyranose de Bergerac" over in the France pavillion.

Although I do enjoy the "Romeo and Edna" and "Kiss Me, Shrew" shows, I much preferred when they had France performances. It made it a heck of a lot easier to bounce between the two pavillions and catch multiple shows and I always loved the coaxing to "make a lot of noise because it annoys the French/English".

I don't know if it's an official spinoff to World Showcase Players, but there is a storyteller in the Japan pavillion who is/was with the troupe.

That's the information I have about recent stuff, anyway! Whew!

And now I leave this Epcot live entertainment discussion with a moment of silence for the dearly departed "Anacomical Players" who used to perform at the Wonders Of Life pavillion.

:flower3: Encore, encore!!! Very nice Peg...must have been a ton of fun. Was dd sufficiently mortified??

Cool! I have only ever seen them at UK. Will have to check them out at Italy next time we're there!

What fun! I love the World Showcase Players and try to catch a performance on every trip.
